Recently, when driving about 60 mph, I ran over the rumble strip on the highway, and the power steering failed completely. I pulled off the
road and restarted the car but still no power steering. Check Power Steering light was on. I called Onstar and they directed me to the nearest Chevy dealer. On the way there I stopped again for about 10 minutes, came back to the car, restarted it, and ps worked fine. Took it to my dealer and they could find nothing wrong. I was in the mountains when it failed, and hate to think of what might have happened if I had been on a curve. I have found at least two other similar incidents on line. Any ideas?

I'm getting very little cool air out of my Volt. Even when running temp on "low" and "comfort"... Also worth mentioning is it seems the passenger side vent blows air slightly cooler than the driver side. Today I compared the A/C output on my Volt versus a friend's Volt - and there is no comparison. Definitely a problem with my A/C... Any ideas on what the problem might be??? Thanks.

My 2012 Volt, 7100 miles, is not the first car I've owned with four wheel disc brakes, but it is the first one in which the parking brake is incorporated into the rear caliper assembly. I feel and hear significant pad/rotor contact while hand turning the wheels with the rear end off the floor. Parking brake is not actuated (slack in the cables). Confirmed pad/rotor contact by spinning wheel with caliper removed. Although the heat generated is insignificant, this must contribute something to the rolling resistance. With the front end off of the floor, I felt gear train resistance but not the pad contact.
The VOLT tech at the dealership said that this is not a problem, SO I am coming to the conclusion that the design of the rear caliper (piston screws in the cylinder with PB application), there is not as much piston travel when brake pedal is released during normal hydraulic braking.
Has anyone else experienced what I have tried to describe?......Gordon

So my 2012 Volt has been at a Chevy dealership since Tuesday morning. After a day of troubleshooting, the THUNK noise from the driver's side wheel/suspension area was diagnosed as Missing Front Brake Caliper Bolt.

Diagram of the front brake assembly is attached (caliper bolts are circled):

My service advisor hasn't been able to explain how this could have happened. FYI, I've had my Volt since June 2012, logging 17,186 mostly highway miles in moderate speeds in "L" mode.

Since the caliper bolts are NOT inventory items at this dealership, I've been waiting for the bolts to arrive for 2 days now. FYI, dealership will replace both bolts under warranty.

Driving a loaner 2013 Chevy Cruze LT has been a middling experience to say the least. I like its steering wheel (same as Volt's), stereo (built in bluetooth) and iPod controls, but nothing more. I can't believe some people actually compare a Volt with a Cruze.

I sent this to my Volt Adviser, also wanted to check here:

Good afternoon sir,

Just a quick question for you. As of late I'm hearing something that I wanted to confirm was normal. I know the sound of the hydraulic pump for the brakes and that only comes on once in a while but every time I press the brake pedal and it transfers from regen to physical braking I hear this noise. Hard to describe but the closest I can get is it sounds like a rush of fluid when you open the valve to fill an empty garden hose. Like a "woosh". This happens every time consistently.

Are the brakes supposed to be silent when transitioning to physical or is this noise normal? To be honest I use the radio 99% of the time so it might have been happening for a while but I don't recall ever hearing it before.

Thank you sir!

Tom C.

Well it seems I can be added to the list of cars who have encountered the "low charge voltage" code, check engine light and my Volt refusing to charge. Turns out I'm one of many who needed their J port on the car replaced due to water intrusion and the resulting corrosion. Painless quick warranty repair, was in and out in a day but suffered the $10 worth of gas into the 2013 Malibu the dealer put me in as a rental.

A few notes, I do charge outside on a regular basis, and have put roughly 10,500 miles on the car in appx 6 months. Not sure if those play a factor but there ya go.
