I am thinking about ordering the rear seat blocker to cut down on the noise from the back of my Volt. I also hear the the cargo mat may help. Has anyone installed both of these in their vehicle? Do they fit together OK? I just don't want to order both and find that only on fits at a time. The dealships here in Canada have no clue.

I purchased both from ebay... I have the blocker in but am still
waiting for the mat. The blocker simply hangs on to the rug
on the back of the seats. It is shorter than the seats so I can't
imagine any problems. I will report when I get the mat. The blocker
helps some already.

I have both. The cargo mat is nice and thick; it's also "sticky" in the sense that things stay put and don't move around. It fits perfectly, and I'm glad I got it.

The rear seat blocker looks nice, and attaches to the backs with velcro. I find two problems with it. 1) You have to remove the blocker if you want to fold the rear seats down, and 2) if you remove it often, you start seeing strands of the carpeted backs of the rear seats start to pull away. Still, I think the interior looks better with it installed.

I made my own blocker for $2 using a 2'x3'x3/16" black foam board from Walmart with two squares of velcro. No leather pocket between the seats, but that top loading pocket seems to lack utility for me. I'd rather has a tissue dispenser. And if you need to fold down the rear seats, the board does not get in the way. I also have the cargo mat.

I have the blocker, mostly because I think it looks much better. Whether it "helps" or not I really don't know, because I don't notice the dreaded noise anyway. All I get is compliments on how quiet the Volt is.

The blocker that is advertised for a 2011 Volt would fit a 2012, right?

My Volt's at the dealer getting the software tuneup, but I can post some tomorrow.

Of course, you can also test your own for $2. Get black foam board. Cut board to desired height, attach two 1" square velcro pieces to the two top corners, press against carpeted seat back. Done.

Get fancy and cover the blackboard in black leather. Apply edging.

Or, apply two racing stripes of velcro hooks to the passenger side and hang a Kleenex box (handy for passengers during colder winter drives).

Etc.

That rubber mat is great in the back. The blocker that velcros to the two back seats. It's nice, but the velcro is sure messing up the fabric where it sticks too. It's getting all frayed from multiple sticks and removals. We're constantly folding our seats down for various reasons and having to remove the blocker in the process. I think what I'll do is perhaps cut the bag off it. If I do I can fold the seats down and leave it on. Only problem with that is I tend to fold one seat down at a time and sometimes only fold one seat down period, in which case I'd just remove it all together. I currently am not using it. I don't like the damage the velcro is doing to the back of the seat.

There are two horizontal pins in the middle of the seat back. A panel that snapped or clipped on to those would be better than the velcro, I agree. Alternatively, a strap that is attached to the panel, loops behind the pins, and snaps/velcro's to the panel might also work. Until I do that, I use two small velcro strips. This is just my working $2 proof of concept.

I purchased both from ebay...
Could you provide an ebay link for the Storage Barrier as well please? So I can see the specific seller you used and contact him/her to see if they have any more. Mine is back ordered months with my dealer since there is some kind of supply chain issue.
Thanks!

Just received an email this morning, from this EBAY merchant telling me that he was refunding my paypal payment for the leather storage barrier. His message: "Hi I'm sorry but this Item has been put on restriction from GM they are out of stock of these items. I do not have a date yet when they will have stock so I'm issuing You a refund and removing this listing temporarly. Sorry for the inconvenice. Joe "
Keep in mind that this price is slightly more than Allen= the gm parts guy, whose phone number is 800-460-5328 or the direct number is 503-408-4162...

Hmm. I wonder if GM is doing a little re-design on the barrier to reduce the velcro carpet damage.

Apparently not - my dealer has been working on this for several weeks for me and has reported:
"apparently there was an issue with the main supplier and they have cancelled it for order from factory orders and parts dept. orders. They tell me that they are working to resolve the issue but at present time it looks like 2 months or so. This is a recent issue that has caused the delay."

You should give that seller heck. They are supposed to only list items on eBay that they ACTUALLY HAVE - they are not supposed to themselves place an order for something once YOU purchase something from them. The eBay Seller Policy page says: "You must ensure the items you are offering are in stock for the duration of the listing and are delivered to the buyer, unless the buyer doesn't meet the terms of your listing."
I'm sure this eBay seller isn't trying to mess you around on purpose - but the sales method they're using (they themselves place an order once you buy their item) is NOT a permitted methodology on eBay. For exactly the kind of reason you've now just experienced.....

This eBay seller,

DOES have stock of the Rear Storage Barrier. I corresponded with him yesterday, and bought one. He indicated he personally, physically, had some (rather than just ordering from GM once a buyer buys). My purchase is already marked as shipped out....so hopefully it's all for real and there truly was stock. Yesterday his auction showed 8 left. With my purchase, and 2 others, there are only 5 now. So act fast if you want one! Lastly, thought his auction says for the States only, I got him to ship to Canada for me for $31.99. I also bought the Cargo Mat from him - shipping for that was a painful $48 - but the total result was still cheaper than the dealer list price of a crazy $162+tax for the mat!
I'm one of the folks unhappy with the level of sound coming from the rear of the Volt interior - hoping these help. Plus, of course, they'll be handy for their intended functions. ;-)

Steverino:

Your idea works great : I got a square of black foamcore board and a couple of the velcro straps that are normally used to cinch cabling together in your computer or av installs ( like these at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Velcro-Reusable-Self-Gripping-Inches-91140/dp/B001E1Y5O6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318369101&sr=8-1) ).

Hold the foamcore up to the seat backs and get an idea where the pins are ( don't have to be very exact ), make two cuts ( I used my pocket knife ), one above and one below the pin.

Thread the velcro strip through the top cut, around the pin, and back out the bottom cut. Cinch 'em tight and you're done. 5 dollars/5 minutes. Here's a pic of one side...

Granted, it's not perfect - it needs to be trimmed and dressed up a bit. But, it should do the job and come off quick if necessary.

I purchased from the e-bay seller as well and got a refund. I tried the other e-bay seller and received the cover yesterday. It looks great. Thanks for the link!
