This might be a stupid question, but is it possible to setup MyVolt.com and OnStar before my Volt arrives?
I want to have as much ready to go as I can when my car gets here. If this is possible, can someone provide some hints or links to other posts. I could not find any.

No because you need an OnStar account number to set it up.

What is necessary to setup the OnStar account? Is there a number/form that comes with the car or is the VIN enough?

Getting anxious, huh?
Setup was done through the car itself. You get some paperwork from the dealer, (not the VIN), go sit in the car, hit the blue button, and they walk you through it. OnStar activates it while you are on the phone, send you your first set of "directions", try to sell you onstar voice minutes. Based on readings form here, I bought the 60 mins for 5.00 (a reasonable price), so I knew I had some for my trip home where AT&T does not always have coverage, and incase I forget my iphone (which I do occasionally) and head to work. so far I only one min on a day I forgot my cell phone. ).
Once that is done you can use your username and password and code to activate your iphone app and onstar online and myvolt. I did the iphone/myvolt registering before I left the dealer to make sure it worked! I did not register for voltstat until after I got home to CO from TX.. but in retrospect I should have done that right away so I had better data.
Plan on 1-hour or 90min for the "picup" as the dealer wants to walk you through the car and such (and you want to get the onstar and stuff working).

I believe the Volt (and probably any other GM car) needs to go through PDI before OnStar can be set up.
