I looked a few days ago and there are some cheaper places for part number 22781210:

http://www.greencarstuning.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=22781210&CartID=1 $399 + 0 s/h = $399

Kind of pricey, don't you think?

The level 2 240V SPX Voltec charger is only $495.00.

Totally depends on your requirements. If you only have a 120V outlet available at home and are unable to install a 240V outlet, it's great to have a second 120V charger in the car for plugging in at a friend or family's home where they are unlikely to have a 240V outlet available as well.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is the cheapest Level 1 EVSE on the market right now.

I just thought of something. if you buy one of these, can you get the tax credit for EVSEs? If so, you can get 30% back at tax time. So net cost would be $279.

The description doesn't specify that the portable vs fixed.

"In addition, the following requirements must be met to qualify for the credit.
• You placed the refueling property in service during your tax year.
• The original use of the property began with you.
• The property is not used predominantly outside the United States.
• If the property is not business/investment use property, the property must
be installed on property used as your main home."

Can "installation" just mean technically being hung on the wall and plugged into an outlet. Kind of gray to me.

Other than the case, a tiny change in programing, and the fancy coiled cable, there's almost no difference required between the 240V SPX Voltec EVSE and the 120V Voltec EVSE. I think they may be different OEMs, but other than 12amp vs 15 amp and 120V rated parts versus 240V rated parts...

And I'd say the plastics and cable would make up the bulk of the difference in costs between the two units.

Yes, the 120V and 240V Volt EVSEs are the least expensive I've seen on the market, bar none (so far).
