Hmm, got a surprised tonight while I was showing my car to someone. While on the highway there was a notification sound and that my charge door is open. It isn't. Are there any fixes to this that I should take it in to do?

Are there any fixes to this that I should take it in to do?Yes, it it is well known condition that might crop up on some early (2011) Volts. FIRST, make sure the door is properly closed, assuming it is and it continues to give you the warning message you should see your dealer (while the issue is present preferably) But here is a bulletin associated with this issue ...

WOT, if theres any TSBs on, could you post the number? These dealers will claim they know nothing. This is my third time going back to the same dealer.

If they search for keywords in titles "charge door" they will be sure to find it.

Mine has popped open a time or two. I figured I just didn't shut it very well or it barely clicked.

Also, it's common for me to unplug the charger from the car, jump in and start it, start backing out... only then to realize the charge-door is open by the message center. I try and try and still I forget to push it closed on a regular basis. I needs a external friendly chime on the vehicle that goes off when you unplug it until you close the door. Perhaps the door should be designed to be sprung closed, so that it goes closed automatically.

Maybe in the new new Caddy Volt (SLR I think, can't remember the new name) Hope they do a autoclosing door. Have it close a few seconds after the plug is pulled.

Interesting..my car is back in the shop. Another overnight stay because parts need to be ordered. Ceiling is taken down again, trying to figure out whats causing the airbag unit to rattle. etc etc..

Strange that the pillar of a Cruze loaner that seems to receive a lot of abuse have zero rattles yet a car 3 times it's price has all these noises. What gives?

No problem with my charge door (Volt #1506) but my glove box latch rattles at 65 Mph and up on the highway.

No problem with my 2011 Volt #1506 but the glove box latch still rattles at highway speeds. Kind of irritating in a car that otherwise is so silent.

My volt has had this issue. Once it starts saying the charging door is open when it's not, it doesn't stop doing it, so I went in for service, and they fixed it. It's doing it again, started the other day. If it keeps happening, we'll go back in for service.

It's a bug, and it bugs me a little that the car goes in for service a little more than I'd like, but I AM that new Volt commercial at the gas station ("hey, isn't that electric?"). I haven't put gas in my Volt since July. Pretty sure I've only been to the pump 3 times since I got it in December 2010. For the life of the vehicle, I have 6779 miles and 5871 are electric. I'm at 215 MPG lifetime and rising. Had a small setback in that number when my charger died. Also, like in the commercial, I can't even go to the supermarket without having to talk to onlookers in the parking lot.

I had a funny experience not that long ago. I went to a restaurant in Augusta, NJ called The Chatterbox. It's an old-time drive-in burger joint, and on Saturdays people bring and show off their classic cars and hot rods. I tried parking the Volt out of the way and went in to eat. When I came out, I walked around to admire the 60's Corvettes and old Camaros, and when I went to leave there was a circle of people around the Volt looking at it. I had to pop the hood and answer questions for 20 minutes before they would let me go home...

Cheers!

But that's COOL! I bought one of the first new Camaro SS's, and it drew crowds for about a year. But the Volt got me hot babes wanting to sit in it...I'm not going to whine about that.

Solved mine!

DO NOT PUT THE SPARE SET IN YOUR TROUSERS POCKET !
(Had it happen twice whil turing a corner)
Then I figured it could be the spare remote in my pocket.

Since I now never ever carry the spare set there while driving - surprise
No more opening charge door while driving - since!

LOL
I new in my case it was a human element involved somewhere .....

Cheers,
Martin
