We recently got a puppy, and I'd like to protect the Volt's Leather seats from puppy claws and teeth. Any recommondations on seat covers I can put over the seats to protect them?

Check out the owners manual in the seat sensor area 3-36. It warns that some seat covers can interfere with the seat sensors for air bags. They recommend GM approved covers only, whatever those are. Not that this applies directly to dogs, more for seat covers used by people.

For the back seats check out the petzoom loungee. I used the design to make my own.

First, I strongly recommend that you always keep your pets on the back seats (just as if they were your babies). Second, if you don't have a waterproof seat cover, just place a disposable training pad under the dogs, cotton side up. Next, I recommend getting a safety harness:

I have two dogs (one is a Shih-Tze which is a Extra-Small [XS] size) and since day one they learned never to travel loose in my cars. The harness fits easily on the dogs, have a sheep-skin chest protector (to distributed any G-forces on their rib cages), and the top has a slip to fit the seat belt in. They are tight enough to limit forward movement, but loose enough to allow lateral movement, My dogs have been using these safety harness for years, and sleep on the rear seat with the harness on (since I drive carefully).

Never carry loose pets in any vehicle!

@rphooper,

At this time GM does not offer a seat cover for the 2011 or 2012 model year. It would be best to ask the dealer for their recommendation.

If you're keeping the dog in the back seats, you could also just put the seat(s) down to protect the leather and give the dog some more room to move around.

I agree with what ClarksonCote has suggested. Just fold down the rear seats. Personally I would not allow pets in my Volt. I dont see the point having seat covers over a leather trim as it defeats the purpose of having leather. I liked using leather treatment wipes on my leather seats in my previous car to help protect them and keep them nice and shiny. Thats personally what I would do.

So, it has been a few months ... has anyone found seat covers that they would recommend? Universal fit is fine, as long as they actually fit.
