: Dangerous Default Interior Color

I ordered a 2012 Volt last week despite the fact that the 2012 prices were not yet in my dealer's computer system (I live in a Q3'11 roll-out state). We worked around that and wrote in the new prices/information so we could have something to sign and agree upon. I ordered a Silver Ice Metallic with the Premium Trim Package and Bose sound.

When my dealer was entering my order today to send off to GM, he noticed that the default interior color came out as 'Jet Black and green seats/dark accents'. He couldn't believe that this was the correct default color and didn't think it would look very good on the car I spec'ed out (your mileage and taste will vary, of course. :D). He called me and we quickly changed it so something more to my taste.

So heads up - look hard at your order when you order the Premium Trim. You may get something you aren't expecting.

Thanks for the heads up. Green and black sounds not so good to me either.

The default is the black cloth seats with white accents. The green is probably the first choice when you select leather. Your salesperson should have known to specify the colors. It's a custom order. For MY 2011 this was easy since you could just look at the web but unfortunately GM hasn't updated the web site to reflect 2012 MY colors.

If you track your car don't get overly fussed up if the color options don't look quite right. I ordered the neutral but it showed as black trim. I had a few moments of anxiety until I checked and found the color code was right.

I think you made a good call on the green but some people have said they like the color. Doesn't do much for me.

That's good to know, and I'm glad my salesman caught it.

The real thrill was to see my order show up on the tracking site. A journey of 1000 miles starts with Code 1100? :)

The fast reaction of your dealer is also good to know. I am glad to read that the error was corrected. I wish every GM dealer would be so diligent as yours. I hope GM is reading this and will notify every Volt salesperson to watch carefully every customer's order, because it will be more expensive for GM to fix after the Volt is manufactured.

Good news!

Indeed. I've just gone through a horrible experience with another auto manufacturer *cough*Nissan*cough* and I hope that my dealings with GM are better. I admit that the bar is set pretty low at the moment and just responding to status requests would be an improvement. I'm already impressed with the transparency of the GM order process and look forward to a positive buying experience.

One of the cars on the Volt Unplugged tour last year had the black interior with green trim. I was surprised how much I liked it. It looks a little bit futuristic and attention grabbing, almost jazzy. However, I can see how many people might prefer something more conventional.

Cool, that's exactly what I was going for; another confirmation that the green is the right interior colour for me! And now I just found out I can get matching umbrellas specifically for the umbrella holders in the doors... made my day.

My 2011 is black with neutral leather and dark accents. But if I was going to get a 2012, I would definitely look into black with red spice interior and dark accents.
