No not new, we've been talking about Toyota and the back pedaling they have been having to do since the Volt seems to be coming along quite nicely. Toyota officials have said in the past that Li-ion batteries were no where near ready for automotive application, the Volt was a "wacky" idea and that GM would come to regret building it. However in the face of the Volt's good progress, they have been forced to reverse their position. The Volt is still ahead in my mind because of it's E-REV design. The Toyota design sounds to be just a Prius with a better battery pack and a plug. The Prius will use gasoline on every trip and the Volt only on some.

Hey guys, don't forget that Toyota will only have them out in test fleets and will only lease (or sell maybe) to fleet customers. Regular Joes like us will not get them. Toyota will probably release them to general public 1-2 years later, so may be late 2011 or in 2012...:)
