Hi there everyone! Long time reader, first time poster.
Anywhoo from my title I am very much interested in purchasing a volt and I even have my name and deposit put down for one at my local dealer. I was wondering if anyone knew or had any information on when the details for the volt lease terms in Canada would be available? I have spoken with a GM rep who told me that we are going to have it but couldn't give me the details. Should I continue the process of ordering one and hope that the info gets released before I take delivery in the fall?

Thanks for everyones help

First the bad news - you are unlikely to get a Volt in the fall even if you ran to your dealer today. Why - because dealers in Ottawa (where I live) started taking deposits last year even before Canadian production was announced (yes bizarre). Some Ottawa dealers have waitlists up to 10 people long and with small amounts of Volts coming to Canada this year ( bet some near the bottom of the lists will not even get a 2012 model).

But you should get in to dealer asap and put down a deposit. Call around to see who has the shortest waitlist and how many vehicles they have been allocated. Ask to speak to a sales manager as many of the sales staff have little knowledge of the details (I know way more about this car and seen to have access to more info than the dealer). Financing and leasing detailes have not been announced.

If at the last minute you decide not to purchase, the dealer will refund your deposit and will gladly sell it to someone else. There is high demand for this vehicle especially in Ontario, Quebec (and B.C.?) where rebates of up to $8K are available. I know without the rebate this vehicle would be out of reach for me.

I'm actually #2 on the list at the dealership I went to and already have a deposit down. As for the leasing and financing details hopefully they announce that information soon.

Thats great then. As long as your dealer gets 2 allocations you should be good to go - its a matter of simply waiting out the financing announcement. I can't imagine it will be more than a month or so.

You have done the most important part of making a decision to purchase a Volt. Stay with the dealer since you are #2 on the list and already have money down. Leasing terms will arrive sooner or later. Worst comes to worse, you can always purchase it and finance the balance.

I am #1 on my dealer's list for a late year (or early next year delivery) in Jackson, Mississippi. Good luck to you in the Great White North from the Deep South.

I was chatting with my dealer rep this morning, and he expects the know the leasing/financing details by the end of July. I've always bought, but I may consider leasing the Volt as an anti-obsolescence measure.

On the bright side, he said they were getting more allocation than expected, I think he said 12 this year. This is at Myers Ottawa.

I went in this morning to tell them my colour and options (Black with black/green interior, Bose stereo, no other options). I didn't stick around while the order was generated since I didn't have much time, but they'll email me the order number when it gets entered. Now I just have to wait for the car to show up :)

Well I hope that holds true. Thats great news for you for sure.

My gut says to buy. I think they over engineered the car and will be looking to strip out the cost and I'm worried that means strip out the quality and build. We have already started to see the standard items for 2011 become options in 2012. Whats next?

That may be the case for the Volt, and maybe GM in general, but I think that in 3-4 years, GM will not be alone producing viable electric vehicles. I'm not one of those people that has particular loyalty to a certain company; I but whatever is the best product for me at the time. If in 4 years VW, as just one example, has an extended range electric that uses diesel for the generator and can improve CS mode efficiency, I'd certainly make the jump over.
