With summer fast approaching has anyone looked into bike racks for the volt yet? What are your thoughts?

I'm not a bike nut so I don't know all the ins and outs of bikes, but I do have an occasionaly need to move my bike from location A to location B in my region.

My concerns are:

1) Weight of the bike/rack vs capacity of the hatch to carry the bike
2) Scratching the paint if the bike jumps around in the rack, and as the bike is being mounted.
3) I know we're not suppoed to "tow" anything in the volt, but what about a trailer hitch mounted bike rack? Can the Volt even support a trailer hitch?..again not for towing per se, but for carrying a trailer hitch mounted bike rack. I also don't know anything about trailer hitches so I wouldn't know what to look for on the underbelly to see the Volt could support this.

Somewhere on the forums, I remember seeing a Volt with 2 bikes on a rack in back. So, someone's figured it out. I just don't remember where it was.

This thread seemed essentially to be about a bike rack.

Are you only moving one bike? I just put the seats down and put mine in the back. Fits fine with the front wheel off.

I asked the same question but I would need to move more than 1 bike, probably about 3 bikes, and there would be no possibility inside the car as there would be people in the seats.

Since then of course the Cruze & Cruze II have appeared as the Volt and Cruze a same size/shape/etc excluding drive train obviously and # of rear seats, etc, etc. A bike rack that fits a Cruze I would imagine would fit a Volt. I am waiting for a Volt owner that has done it to see if it is possible however.

I have a bike rack that I bought at REI, Saris is the brand name. It will hold 4 bikes, but practicality limited me to three. I have not used it on the Volt and don't plan to. I must say that it caused a great deal of insecurity when I hit bad pot-holes (there are a lot here in Michigan) but the thing did seem to do a good job. One vacation had a 3 hour drive, some bad pot-holes at the start, carried 3 bikes - all worked well. But don't want to risk it on the Volt. The roof racks are probably the most secure, but it probably destroys the aerodynamics of the Volt (at least when the bikes are up there).

I have used suction cups in the past and unless your paint is very clean, they will leave abrasion marks. Even a little bit of dust, when vibrated in the cups for long distances, could mar the paint. Mounted on glass would not be a concern.

Anyone know where can I get the best price on bike rack?
