: How long does charge hang on in idle battery?

Just planning ahead and thought about the outdoor presence of my (future) Volt at my NY home (no garage). I realized the car would sit for days without going anywhere, but I might want to leave without several hours of planning for it ahead of time (for recharge). I would recharge after using the car and then put charger away from elements.

Has anybody charged their Volt, unplugged it, left it for days and seen what happened to predicted EV miles from the idle period after the charge ended? Some batteries hang on to a full charge quite well and others drop off noticeably within a couple days. I am wondering how the Volt will be for me.

This is going to be the least scientific reply you get to this, but I can happily report that the Volt we have on the showfloor at the dealership I work at has not been charged in 3-4 weeks and has not lost a mile of predicted EV range. It did prompt me to allow Engine Maintenence mode to run last time I started it though :)

I have left the Volt garaged twice for 2 or 3 weeks and I can report the same no loss of mileage. Both times the battery was at about 40 to 50 percent state of charge, the Volt was not plugged in and the weather was cool. When the weather is hot, I plan to leave the Volt plugged into the 240 volt charger for proper battery management if not using the vehicle for a week or two. This will depend on the maximum temperature in the garage and any updated advice from GM and those here who can advise what is best.
