Some battery suppliers are actually incorporating supercapacitors into the batteries that they build. We may eventually see individual cells with supercaps incorporated.

The silicon nanowire tech may be an alternative to the supercap, allowing rapid recharge and discharge without degradation, so if that rolls out before supercaps take hold, supercaps may never make it into vehicles, or stay there for long.

Ultra cap is certainly where the tech will be forced to go, (or other similar system that can manage large discharges). Just getting a electric car is the 'hot buzz' now...but once you take it a step farther, people will realize the awesome power a electric auto can put out in short bursts (aka 0-60, 1/4 mile)....and they will demand it.

Thanks to the Tesla Roadster, A123's and Lithium Tech's racing bikes, and HST Automotive's muscle car conversions, you are absolutely right that EV's and E-REV's are going to surpass ICE vehicles in performance / efficiency / emissions.

I'm thinking that once the car ships, an after market business of improving the battery technology will evolve. Especially this first generation where battery technology will evolve signficantly during the life of the car.

I could easily see after market additions of things like an ultra cap.
