I been cosidering the Volt but i thought today, GM should put a option where you can choose to start driving in gas before the electric. an example would be i live 2 hours from my favorite beach. well start my drive using the gas and by the time i reach the beach be able to cruise the are on just the battery. that sounds like a good idea, to me at least, what do you guys think?

This is what the European Model will do, the Ampera, read about it on allcarselectric website. I am guessing there could be a change that GM could make to the Volt as well as I like this feature to be able to control when you drive on purely battery power alone.

This makes sense for winter driving I think. Heat up the cabin with your nifty CHP ICE, then switch to electric driving. The problem with implementation is probably more marketing (what kind of EV is that?), but slowly the Volt is being recognized as just another plug-in hybrid, where ideology does not triumph.
All those years of wasted bandwidth arguing that the "EREV" is somehow a special category until itself. I suppose it is a relief that "EREV" in a couple years will be a forgotten piece of marketing speak. Did any of the ideologues learn a lesson ?

Yeah but in reality it is a plug in hybrid. It's a reversed hybrid. Normal hybrid have a small electric motor to help the gas motor. The volt after a dead charge u have a small gas generator helping the isn't it 2 electric motors?

You can of course just go to Mountain mode till you get to the beach and when you arrive switch back to normal and you will have about 10 miles of battery left to run on electric only.

Yes and no. When you are in charge sustaining mode (engine is running). The 55kW motor is being used as a generator to provide electricty to the main 110 kW drive motor.
