I am really skeptical about the Volt. I do not believe they will ever buld it. Just watch, you heard it here first

I think once they start setting launch dates that are only two years off, we are far down the road from the sort of moving goal post bs we see from the GM hydrogen projects.

I'm aware of their record on these kinds of things, but I think the Volt faces less hurdles between here and the finish line then other projects. I think they got seriously embarressed by the bad press from "Who Killed the Electric Car" and by the pounding Toyota is giving them in the market place. You may be right, but my gut tells me they are serious about getting back into the enviromental friendly category this time.

The flex engine design has been rolled out as a central design not just for the volt, but for several other cars. Unlike the hydrogen projects, we don't need to see a revolution in energy distribution and sales for the Volt to work. The only real stopping point for GM is the batteries and if they can work the way GM thinks they will. Those tests are underway now and hopefully we should soon know if they will work.

But more then all that, is the importance of two things. One, that we show that consumers are ready for a mass production electric vehicle and two that all the other auto makers of the world see GM starting projects like this. Inovation is a keeping up with the Jones thing for big companies and the more companies we see start these types of projects, the better for us.
