Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi to all.
I have been lurking on here trying to get info on the Volt from actual owners experiences. I don't have a Volt. Havn't even had a glimpse of one on the roads so basiclly I am here gathering info. You guys have a good website here so I might be asking a couple of dumb questions after I do more reading.
Thanks for approving me.

Dave,
2 questions: how far is your daily commute and what are you paying for electricity?
Welcome!

This is a really neat and very innovative car. While it was primarily aimed at the short drive folks, it can easily go cross country at nearly 40 mpg. with no charging. So, while it is truly awesome for 40 mile/day use and will burn no gas, the Volt also does a great and economical job for greater distance use. They aren't cheap, but there is the $7,500 rebate and help from electric suppliers for charging. With gas prices going out of sight, my only regret might be that I didn't buy two Volts. Jump into the group, you won't be sorry.:)

I'm from upstate (well, "west-state") - originally Lewiston, NY but living near Philadelphia now. The drives around Buffalo are perfect for a Volt owner as "everything is 20 minutes away". A national survey just rated Buffalo #5 and Rochester #1 for commute distance/time. I went to college in Rochester and I agree - great commuting there. Given the economy of upstate NY, it's hard to know if there is a large market for the Volt in NYS but I'm sure there will be some happy upstaters driving them once the car goes national. Sure hope they can get the tax situation figured out and the spending in Albany in check.

I joined gasbuddy.com about a week ago and have already updated my local stations prices twice this past week.
My wife and I were next to a Sunoco station today while the guy changed the price with his suction-stick from 3.45 to 3.49. A 1.4% increase while we watched.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Yeah, I am Upstate NY. Think mountain driving and not a lot of flat highway. Not a lot of traffic usually anyway....haha Tough winter weather at times but I have the jeep for that since it will get me anywhere and back safely and never breaks down...(looking for wood to knock on......haha).
Daily mileage varies but will usually be under 40 miles or so. The way I understand it for those days I will probably use very little gas. The only times I will use gas probably is in the mountains. (going up since I assume the engine will shut off going down.) On my out of state trips I would use gas obviously since it would be 1,000 miles.
Still reading more info and I thank all of you for a great website..

Dave,
What is more important to you: 1) Using as little gas as possible or, 2) the TOTAL cost of your gas PLUS electricity. (You did not answer the question about how much you are paying for electricity.)
