Yeah, I had to get one of these to go with the one I have of the concept Volt. Also got some Chevy bow tie valve stem caps for my Volt.

Waiting on 3800!

I definitely considered that but it has some pretty good detail and crevices.

Thanks for this posting. I bought it, and will now have a larger scale Volt. I did buy the smaller Hasbro "Transformer" Jolt toy (in blue) that can be manually transformed into the car or into the Autobot form. I believe that there is a larger Hasbro Jolt toy but I prefer the Chevy version because it is more like the real Volt.

I have begun saving for the down payment, and expecting to see the Volt available in Puerto Rico by the end of 2011 or the beginning of 2012. GM has to speed up its production because the foreign EV wil arrive here sooner, although there is only one red Tesla Roadster here but no Nissan LEAFs yet.

I'm something of a scale model builder, though I haven't done much with that in the last couple years. I also got one of the Hasbro "Jolt" toys a while back, and repainted it to look soomething like the pre-production show car. (The toy is representatve of the configuration with the smaller mirrors and old hood and bottom trim lines.) In case anyone is interested, I basically had to disassemble the thing as much as possible and mask off all the parts I didn't want to paint using Tamiya masking tape designed for this purpose. I painted all the visible body parts using Testors Auto Lacquer "Light Gray Metallic (Chevy) Auto", which is GM-licensed; this is a 2-coat spray-can product that has a base coat and clear coat. I painted the skirt by hand Dark Gull Gray (FS 36231) and the gloss black parts around the side windows and on the front grille.

This die-cast model looks pretty neat, and I think I'll probably try to get one in the near future. If one wanted to repaint it, it looks like it would take quite a bit of effort but would be doable; I'd recommend disassembling it first, but I can't tell by looking at the photos to what extent that would be possible or easy; failing that, it would need a lot of careful masking. I'd definitely recommend using some sort of spray product, either can or airbrush (if you had a bottle of Crystal Red touch-up paint, you could try using an airbrush to apply it), to get a smooth and realistic-looking finish, and then apply some type of clear coat on it.

I received my Volt model on Friday!

It's highly detailed, right down to having the two LCD displays showing the speed and power flow displays. All the doors, the trunk and the hood open, and I found that even the charge port door opens (but not the gas door). The wheels turn, as do the disc brake rotors. It even comes with a little 240V Voltec wall charger. Very cool!

Only problem with mine? The red tail light lenses were missing. I found them under the rear tires of the model inside the styrofoam packing material. :( Debating wether to exchange it, or just glue them back in place. For the price of return shipping, I may just go the superglue route.

Anyone else get their model Volt yet?

I received my model this week. My Volt had the lenses intact and everything looks good. Do you know what the "stick" is for? The detail is excellent (check out the interior photos).

Here are some photos:

Do you know what the "stick" is for?

Got mine. Quite cool. Larger than I expected (model-size, not matchcar-size).

Both ports open: electric and gas. The stick may actaully be a pry-bar, to open the ports!

I found that using a fingernail, carefully, was a bit better, as the hinges on the charge and fuel port doors are a bit tight. The stick seemed to bend a bit too easily at that thin part at the very tip for me to feel comfortable with using it on the ports, so I've just been using it for the door handles and such.

Man, if they only offered it as a remote control car it could have been the first all electric volt!

No way I'd buy it unless it has a gas generator to help me go past the end of the block!! What are you going to push (carry) your 'all electric' Volt home <grin>. I would not want to deal with that 'range anxiety'!

Now the ultimate irony would be someone with a Volt RC gar that runs on gas only. Like the little nitro race fuel RC cars, but with a Volt body and wheels.

Sweet! I have a matchbox-sized blue Jolt from last year but that Transformer and the die-cast are both pretty darn cool. Thanks to all of you, for the fun posts and neat details!

Has anyone else had any quality issues with the die cast? They've sent me 3 so far and I've had to send them all back. First one had big black scratch on the side, second one was not completely painted (you read that right), third one the front grill was handing off.

What's more the customer service, while very good at first, after 3 send backs began to blame me effectively saying my standards were too high and they won't be sending me any more. I'm sorry but for a 70 dollar die cast I expect there to be no big black scratches down the side, it to be completely painted, and for parts not to be hanging off upon arrival and with no handling by me. I guess I'm expecting too much?

I've never ever been in a situation where i've had to send a product back more than once and am pretty easy to satisfy....not looking for perfection. In fact, I've never had a company effectively tell me they won't be able to satisfy me. However for a company to tell me they cannot send a replacement because they do not believe I will accept it is a red flag. It's worth noting that they to me all this after their headquarters got my third car sent straight to them for inspection and then then a few die casts sent to them from the warehouse for inspection prior to sending out to consumers.....so are they saying the grill that was falling off the third car (touching the ground and dragging) was acceptable or that the cars from the warehouse were also crap? Who knows but when I asked them if they were going to stop selling the cars due to quality issues such as these I never got a straight answer.

That said they refunded my account...for the wrong amount. Mind you they gave me much more than they should have. Me being my honest self pointed this out to them at least 3 separate times with no response.

What have I learned that I hope you will benefit from
1. Quality of the die cast is in question (at least the current stock)
2. Customer service was unable to resolve a simple issue and effective blamed the customer
3. They could not even refund the proper amount and gave me too much (plus or minus depending on how you look at it).

Point is, every opportunity they had to shine and satisfy, they failed. I honestly had an easier time buying the real thing than the replica! Ha! This coming from someone who shopped at PontiacMall all the time. Hope this info helps someone and that I'm not the only one dealing with this.....buyer beware.

Here's my post from when I got my model Volt. There were also a few minor imperfections in the paint. I just super glued the tail lamp lenses back in place, and now you can't tell they had fallen off in shipment.

Given the fact that these have been shipped from halfway around the world, I'm not surprised some of them have had issues. It does sound like you had more than your fair share of duds, though.

Better yet, for those few people with two Volts they could get two of them that says "My other car is also a Volt!"
