I believe the generator kicks in but as a motor at speeds between 70-100mph to help it reach that top speed. I'm wondering if it can be hacked to kick in sooner to help in all cases with the pedal to the metal?

Mountain Mode maybe?

Not Correct! That is only the case in Charge-Sustaining (CS) mode. The Volt will reach its max 100 mph speed on electric-only Charge-Depleting (CD) mode, as long as there is sufficient battery charge remaining.

In CD mode, it's not a case of needing the generator motor for the additional power as much as keeping the main traction motor from overspeeding. In CD mode when you put the pedal to the metal the main traction motor is driving the wheels. at 70 MPH the traction motor hits it's speed limit. at this point the generator motor (which is not connected to the ICE because the clutch is open) begins to increase speed to keep the traction motor from going to overspeed. So it's more a situation of MG speed than power in CD mode.

If you are talking CS mode it's a different story.....and what you suggest has been suggested before here. In this case one would want to alter the programming so that the full 50 kw of ICE power and the full 110 kw of traction motor could get to the rear wheels for a total of 160 kw. That would be cool.....but no hack that I know of.

Just be patient and someone will come up w/ one sooner or later.
This hack would be super popular!!

I don't think you would gain extra power, as the engine only has so much power, and the motors only have so much power each, and I believe when one comes on the other switches functions or something. It is only helping to make up for the difference when one of the motors kick on. I know there is more detail about it someplace.
