: Review of four Standard Volt Accessories

Hi--

Today I picked up some GM Accessories specific to the Volt (http://www.gmaccessorieszone.com/Chevrolet/2011/Volt/?src=chevrolet). Here are my thouhts:

1 - Floor Mats (19243441). These heavy-duty rubber replacement mats are great, especially if you live in a place where floor mats could get dirty. Being from the north, already my Volt's stock fabric mats were getting covered with road salt and grime. I am happy to be preserving my original mats while letting the rubber replacements take the beating.

2 - Cargo Mat (20917118). Essentially the same heavy-duty rubber as the floor mats, this is not a replacement but goes on top of the fabric covering in the cargo area. Again, I'm happy with this, even though it is a bit heavy, because it will protect the orginal mat from abuse (e.g., skate blades).

3 - Cargo Organizer (20988807). I ordered the leather version. It's mounted on a nice covered board that is held firmly against the back seats by wide Velcro strips. It's a well-made good-size pouch, with a flap top--perfect for 2 or 3 bottles of wine (Cap'n Jack, you listening?). I knew it might interfere with hockey sticks, so it's not in my car for now.

4 - Stowage Bag (19243786). This one kind of stumps me. I expected hard plastic, like a toolbox, but actually it's made of some sort of rubberized pliable material. Inside is cheap foam (sorry, have to be honest) attached gingerly by Velcro. The handle is leather and canvas. It's like a high-tech briefcase. Also, it comes with two straps/carabiners for securing to hooks built into the Volt cargo area. I played around for 15 minutes trying to make the straps work right and gave up. I'm satisfied with the built-in nooks and crannies that come standard with the Volt.

I didn't purchase any other accessories, but here they are for completeness:

5 - Cargo Net (19244300)

6 - Vehicle Cover (20927470)

7 - Sunshade Package (20905185)

8 - Smoker's Package (22761214)

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the review, Slapshot!

I've also picked up some accessories for my Volt, even though I'm still at 3400 on my order. Ended up getting the rear seat storage/barrier, the cargo net, and the sunshade package. My dealer charged me under MSRP for the three accessories I ordered, so that was great!

The rear seat storage/barrier has soft touch leather on the pouch that goes between the rear seats, and I think it looks nice with the light leather seats. I haven't opened the cargo net yet, but I'm sure it'll come in handy to keep grocery bags from tipping over while I do some spirited cornering in my future Volt. :) The sunshade package is very nice, and made of thick, insulated folding panels covered with silver vinyl, and surrounded with a black finishing boarder, which is similar to the custom sunshade I ordered for my 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP back in the day. Also comes with a silver drawstring bag, with a spring loaded friction lock on the drawstring that keeps the top of the bag closed, to store the sunshade when not in use. Both the sunshade and bag have a big Volt logo in black.

I'm quite impressed with the accessories I ordered.

I was wondering on how the sunshield is held in the window?

Thanks for the post and the photos, Slapshot!

I too ordered all the floor mats. They're pricey, but they fit perfectly and in this sloppy weather, they're doing a great job protecting the carpeting. I especially like the molded-in Volt logo!

I also ordered the leather cargo divider with pouch. It's a nice finishing touch and the pouch stores a rolled fleece blanket with room to spare. I'm not sure about the wine, but that's what the cargo net is for...

The cargo net can be installed two different ways. It can be suspended across the two HD mushroom buttons at the rear of the cargo bay, and the bottom of the net has snaps that attach to the steel cargo rings. It forms a nice elongated pocket to keep groceries and other goods under control. The net has a zipper at each end so that the net can be installed flat. This way, larger objects can be placed on the floor and the net is used to hold it securely. Snaps are used to attach the net to the steel rings.

I didn't bother with the other items, but I would like a Volt emblazoned jacket. Any ideas?

Thanks!

How does this work? Do they ship to your dealer? What were the shipping charges?

Yes, you order them at a dealer using part number from 2011 Volt accessory page.

Picked up the floor mats and cargo mats today. The cargo mat is a keeper. The floor mats are going back. I can get better coverage with standard mats from (Costco, Sams Club, etc) on the front floor area. I carried standard floor mats with me on the day I picked up the vehcile and I have had no issues with the floor mats sliding around. The GM back seat floor mats do offer slightly better coverage, but I think I can achieve something even better by cutting and fitting two standard rear mats.

The floor mats I had before came from Sams' Club and the material is noticeably thicker than the Volt mats.

The cargo mat is more substantial than the floor mat in thickness. And fits fairly well, although it could have been about 1 inch longer front to back to achieve complete back seat to hatch wall coverage.

I ordered through my local dealer, even though they do not yet have Volts. I paid MSRP. No shipping charges. If had ordered by noon I could have had them the next day.

There was a request above in this thread for a picture of hockey gear in the cargo area. Here you go!

It's a coach's bag, 2 youth sticks, and 2 senior sticks. I've had 4 senior sticks and two full-gear bags in there, no worries. Also scored a goal from the point that night! Yes, it was a slapshot...

By the way, a golf bag only fits with one rear seat folded down.

Does anyone have the Cargo Organizer (20988807) with the Jet Blk Leather interior/Dark Trim Accents? I am very interested in this product but not sure if it will match my interior exactly. I would be okay if I had a tan interior as it wouldn't look like I was trying to match anything but if you already have a nearly blk interior and this is some off dark color it might be a little funny looking. Any thoughts before I order are greatly appreciated (just went to 3000 ;)

I just ordered the cargo mat, the cargo net, and the rear seat pouch off ebay for a discount. Even with shipping, the parts were less than MSRP and I saved tax as well.

I ordered a set of Lloyds mats specifically cut for the Volt. They are super luxurious with 1/2" thick pile, and will better match the Cadillac level of interior of the Volt than the cheapo standard floor mats. I am hoping the attachments for the mats match the factory hold downs. We'll see. Lloyds is pretty good about those details.

I ordered and received the cargo mat, cargo net, and sunshade from Allen English at Tonkin Chevrolet in Oregon http://www.tonkinchevrolet.com/ The items were shipped promptly with a very reasonable ground shipping charge of $16. Allen will discount the order by 23% if you enter Volt1 as the coupon code when checking out.

Others have reported on the cargo mat and cargo net but I would like to comment on the sunshade. It is excellent quality and construction. It is insulated and finished on both sides in a semi-reflective material. On one side VOLT is imprinted in large black letters and it has a black Volt logo. It is a fold-up sunshade (not the roll up type) and the material is very thick. When folded it is about 5 inches thick. It also comes with a sturdy silver bag with a draw string to stow the sunshade. I am very impressed with the quality, although for $99 retail I did expect it to be of good quality.

I purchased the Volt sunshade around a month ago and have used it less than a dozen times so far. This morning I found that the black "Volt" logo lettering was stuck together when I tried to unfold it. The screened on letters had apparently softened in the heat causing them to stick together when folded up. When I pulled it apart, some paint transferred from one panel to the other leaving silver showing through the black letters in some spots. Obviously this does not affect usability, but not really expected on an otherwise sturdy sunshade.

That is very unfortunate, sorry to hear that Fluke. I will have your advisor reach out to you and we will see what we can do about getting this taken care of for you.

Same exact thing happened to me. GM had me return it through a local dealer, and shipped me a new one. Other than yours, I haven't heard of any other such failures.

Apparently the 120V EVSE isn't the only learning curve item for GM!

Mine is doing that also. It also sags really bad after it been up all day to the point where it is almost ready to fall down. Something that thick should not sag the way it does.

I remember I saw a youtube video showed sag but can't seemed to find it since. This is concerning, can you post a picture of the degree of sag?

"thick" does not equal "light". I pull out the sun visors and extend them under the sunscreen. Holds it up quite nicely!

Here's a couple of pics of the sagging sun shade and black marks from the Volt logo. My visors are also down. For the price of this thing it should be better then this.

I too bought the sun shade and was extremely disappointed. Yes, the black logo transferred when it was folded. Yes, it sagged a bit. The biggest problem was the vinyl out-gassing. In the hot Texas climate, putting it in the window for just one day left so much fog on the window that I had to clean it that evening before I would even consider driving it the next day. I hope GM will re-design this.

I've been having all of the same problems... transferred lettering, sagging in the heat, and serious fog / residue on the glass such that I now have to keep a windshield cleaner in the glove box. Did anyone get a replacement sunshade that actually fixed these issues? Is there an aftermarket shade that has the same style and fit?

I bought the 5 piece all weather mats and the door sill trim plates, all are very high quality, and stamped MADE IN THE USA on the packaging and the underside of the mats.

That was/is important to me.

I read the whole thread looking for pics of the door sill trim plates installed. I bought them but it does not seem like they will do much in the way of protection, so have yet to put them on.

The OP should put these in their list, it's part number 19244299.
