How about a list of all comments by screen name? Upon clicking a margin-link you would get a list of screen names (who have made more than 20 or so comments), alphabetically arranged. Selecting one would populate a list (from newest to oldest) for that contributor as you scroll down (straight text stripped of html would do).

I’ve seen a similar arrangement on at least one other site. You can see an example of it at http://j-walkblog.com/ listed under "other views" -> "comments by." Clicking the link takes you to a pulldown to select the name. Selecting a name produces the list (suitable for copying and pasting into Wordpad or whatever, if desired).

(Alert readers may notice a "Jackson" in this list: my last post on the site was in 2008 (the one which appears later is bogus). I held a minority opinion there, and I eventually chose to leave permanently).

How about a list of all comments by screen name?

While reading a message from a user, just click on their screen name. That takes you to a page where you have the options to "Find all posts" (which will do exactly what you've described) or "Find all started threads" (which is an additional bit of detail).

Likewise, to find all users select from the "Community" pull down in the title bar, and select "Member List".

Rusty, you appear to be talking about features which exist only within the forums.

I am talking about all comments made to the daily, top-level posts.

You are correct, I was talking about postings on the forums.

This is the type of functioning forums provide, not supported in blog software. It is part of the reason the site is transitioning to be completely forum-based.

Yeah, but how does this help me look up the comment where I guessed how the "secret transmission" worked (more or less) after Lutz let that comment slip?

Site navigation by User Name (with example)
Why are you people so concerned with how I navigate these forums?

Just use google.com's site: keyword like:
