: Free Sharon!
?'smyvolt 12-22-2010, 09:40 AM In another thread, Sharon (# 377) reports that she has been in status 3800 since December 7! As such, she is the Mayor of Area 51. However, she also holds the record for status 3400....October 28 to December 7.
Free Sharon and the other captives of Area 51!
Sharon 12-22-2010, 11:13 AM Here's my 2nd attempt to reply... Thanks for the support :-) Yesterday I phoned my Volt Advisor. She said the car is still comfortably parked in Area 51 and "may ship this week or next". I've been hearing that for the past several weeks. Then, my dealer tried calling GM for information, but he got the same story. Interestingly, the 2 Volts ahead of me at my dealership in Marin County, Ca, have already been delivered and are being picked up today by their owners.
Xzlon 12-22-2010, 11:55 AM Sharon,
Did your car move to Code 4800 yesterday. Mine(#483) did. If they come on the same truck they will hopefully drop mine off in the central valley beore going on over to Marin.
Sharon 12-22-2010, 01:07 PM Hi and congratulations of 4800! Unfortunately, I'm still at 3800. Just about ready to give up checking everyday :-(

and bumper stickers! I wonder how many are trapped in Area 51 at this precise moment in time. 250? 300? More?

Yeah, bumper stickers. Good call.

It is really nice to have good company when you are lost in a black hole!

Actually, I donnow where I am right now....limbo like at 4800....I think it is an alternate universe...
?'smyvolt 12-23-2010, 07:32 AM From what I am seeing in one of the threads on this forum, cars are being delivered with over 75 miles on them. Perhaps in Area 51 they are being driven by the QA team to go through a checklist. If they don't pass, perhaps they go back for tweak or repair. I wonder if they have a top end on the number of miles before they are considered a used car.....Some of us have been in Area 51 for a lonnnnnnggggg time....
?'smyvolt 12-23-2010, 02:04 PM So long to my pals in Area 51...I have a truck ride to the train station today....
Best wishes to all of you in limbo land!

Besides transportation movement, and the usual PDI road test, a typical new vehicle sitting on the dealer lot vehicle could have even been test driven numerous times by potential buyers, before it is purchased.
While this is not the case obviously for a special order unit such as your Volt, my point being it is not unusual for a small amount of miles (usually less than 100, but not always the case) to have been accumulated on a new car.
In the case of the Volt, these additional quality control checks might result in additional accumulation than normal. It has been the goal of the Volt team to attempt to prevent no more than 75 miles on the odometer at time of purchase (as outlined in an internal bulletin to the dealers).
But each scenario is unique so there may have been sound rationale for the additional miles (either before shipment of after arriving at the dealer) in order to insure you'll be 100% satisfied with your Volt.
Don't forget, your official "in-service" odometer reading will be recorded at the time of delivery. So your new car warranty commences from this mileage and date.
If you encounter a Volt at pickup with significantly more miles than 75, I suggest you discuss the matter with your dealer.

Working for a large organization, the most new cars I have ever purchased in a year was several hundred. As I have said elsewhere, I don't want to be a beta tester and would rather have the QC/QA people drive more miles than less if it means I don't get a buggy car. :> ))
