: My first (minor) issue

I had noticed early on that the charge port door on my car doesn't exactly snap closed, in fact it bascially makes no click at all when closing it. This morning I went outside (about 33 degrees out), pulled out the cord and went to close the door, and it wouldn't latch at all! I tried a couple of times but it wouldn't work. Then I tried holding it shut while clicking the door open remote button and it stayed closed.

Later I moved the car a bit to take the pictures I posted earlier, and then moved it back near the garage and plugged it in. When I went to leave again the same thing happened, only this time I had to try the little remote trick about 4 times before it would stay shut. So it's getting worse, apparently.

I'll be stopping by the dealer today because he owes me a couple of things, and I'll ask them about fixing the door. If it stops working altogether, I sure don't want to drive it with the door flapped open; it's kind of like having your zipper down!

Duct tape to the rescue!

(and then residue remover for the tape adhesive left on the car)

(and then a paint job because the residue remover damaged the paint)

Looking forward to a fix on this one. Sound like they don't have it licked yet.

Lyle posted a comment about this issue several days ago and said that the GM "fix" is to push in the middle of the door rather than the edge opposite the hinge. Are you pushing in the middle already?

Yea, I've been pushing the middle of the door and haven't had an issue yet. I'll keep an eye on it though.

I did notice some minor charging door closure issues with my CAB pre-production car.

I was told by GM they fixed this for production. In fact I do notice on my own VIN08 Volt that the door does close now firmly with a click. Same for the center console lid.

I remember when the first (2010) Camaros came out. One of the recurring issues was that the interior trim for the A pillar posts kept popping out.

UPDATE: When I got to the dealer (who's been treating me like family, btw) we talked for a while (and they actually fed me, since they were just finishing up lunch and had subs left over) and then we brought the car into the service bay. Lots of dealership folks gathering around, who hadn't seen the Volt before. People get happy around this car, seriously, plus it looked fantastic since I spiffed it up this morning. A couple of the techs were there, too, and when I demonstrated the door "problem", the door worked perfectly (doesn't that always happen), and I noticed that the solenoid activated pin was much further down than it was this morning, all the better to latch. Pushing up and down by hand we realized that it was sort of binding in the middle, but in the warmer temp of the garage it still worked OK. The tech hit it with some silicone and it seemed to stop the binding, so at this point I'm going to proclaim "problem solved". That's a relief, since I dreaded the idea of having to take apart that assembly to fix it. When I mentioned that to the techs, they said, "so do we!"

Duct tape to the rescue!

Turns out it was the opposite problem. Something wasn't moving that should.

Two universal tools to fix any problem:

If it moves and it shouldn't, use duct tape.

If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40.
