: Deliveries?
Stilgar99 12-08-2010, 04:06 PM I am not one of the lucky one that have a Volt built and waiting for delivery.....however I want them delivered to you all SOON (so that they can work on mine!).
I know we have heard 2 'rumors' on the cause of the slow deliveries;
a) 'rumor 1' - GM is collecting finished Volts to make a media event out of the first mass shipment
b) 'rumor 2' - The currently built Volts required a software update before shipment
Does anyone know the real story? I know one of the CAB group said that he got a software update, but it was never clear if the update was done via the 'airways' or if he had to take it in. I know that the latest interview from GM execs said 'owners can expect a nice xmas', but that sounds quite vague.... and could really mean anything.
I wish GM would tell us whats going on. Does anyone have any new info? Do any official GM reps read these forums? Could they chime in?

maynard 12-08-2010, 04:46 PM All your Volts are parked at the Hamtramick plant. They are awaiting a minor change for a display power supply. The good news is that each are charged daily. That's what the guy on the other side of the fence at the plant told me.
honoreitiscom 12-08-2010, 04:48 PM "the guy on the other side of the fence"! Maynard you are my hero! I love it!
airton 12-08-2010, 05:04 PM Thanks for the heads up Maynard! wow what a bummer! I wonder how long that's going to take :(

Absolutely hilarious!!!! I love how the info is retrieved so professionally in this forum. I think in newspapers that is referred to as an "anonymous source". Hahaha!

rhellie 12-08-2010, 05:26 PM A hero is born.
ChrisC 12-08-2010, 05:35 PM Thanks maynard for the recon!
Stilgar99 12-08-2010, 08:28 PM Thanks maynard....
Interesting....does your 'guy' have any words about how long it will take to fix the ones on the lot?
maynard 12-08-2010, 11:04 PM no, not really. I guess the problem only shows up when it is very cold outside; and it has surely been cold here in Detroit lately. I would think the Volt consumer board guys would have seen the problem unless they don't operate their cars in cold weather.
Marty 12-08-2010, 11:35 PM Ummm....
Airton, if that's you, shouldn't you be on the other side of the NO TRESPASSING sign?
Or is that the guy on the other side?
RevnRev 12-09-2010, 12:10 AM If this is indeed what is happening, perhaps later VIN cars might actually arrive before earlier ones, if the current cars on the line have got the proper part, and the ones already built must be "fixed" one at a time? Sigh...

That is "the guy on the other side of the fence" Marty, I guess GM needed someone young and fit enough to run around and plug in 300 plus Volts every night ;)
?'smyvolt 12-09-2010, 07:50 AM no, not really. I guess the problem only shows up when it is very cold outside; and it has surely been cold here in Detroit lately. I would think the Volt consumer board guys would have seen the problem unless they don't operate their cars in cold weather.
I wonder if any of the consumer board guys have seen this post and if so, they can amplify what was said by our hero "on the other side of the fence."
Xzlon 12-09-2010, 05:02 PM Do you think GM is caught up in a minimum storage temperature concern. The manual states 14F as a minimum storage temperature. The weather reports states 13F for low in Detroit this week. Depending upon the shipping route the temperature may exceed the storage specs enroute.
I have been following the design and development of two vehicles the last three or four years; the Volt and the Boeing 787. The 787 in now running three years behind schedule after its original unveiling and self complimentary ceremony. Lets hope the Volt does not succomb to the same unending design and manufacturing shortcomings.
I would think no one is going to get their car shipped until after whomever buys the auctioned car gets his or hers. That way they are truely first as they have paid for. Then hopefully they will have the software fix done or whatever and get started shipping. I hear they are shutting the plant down for Christmas, but they will continue to ship some cars if some are ready to go.

Good point, in the auction they are billing it as "The First Volt Available For Sale". Auction ends tomorrow (12/14/10) 6PM Eastern. At that point there are no more excuses. If there's no news on our deliveries by Wed. this week, I propose we all call our Volt advisor once per day, and each time ask for a supervisor, and demand an explanation of the delay and a firm delivery date.
ChrisC 12-13-2010, 02:10 PM I'm giving them until 3pm Wednesday to announce something. Anything. 49 hours!
This is interesting, yet unsubstantiated conjecture on what is holding up deliveries. You know those guys on the other side of the fence...I guess they're a little better than those on the fence.
I have driven my CAB Volt on some cold days with some lows in the upper teens. I have not noticed any display weirdness. That's not to say it couldn't happen under some rare circumstances.

Lyle,
Have you driven your Volt to Alaska for low temp testing? Just going up to the Catskills for a few days this week should tell the GM engineers all they need to know!!
VIN63 Eastbound and down!!
