My order did get entered: "Status 12/10/2010 - (1102) Order Entered via Web" per the http://www.chevroletconnects.com site but some of the options are not right like painted vs polished rims.

If we have enough IL owners we could have a mini meetup.

Thanks for ths info....we're in the middle of considering all this now. Volt has been in Illinois since 12/29....when do other Illinois owners get theirs?

No problem. My meter was supposed to be installed a couple days ago but they said it may take up to two billing cycles to be completely turned over to the hourly rate.

My volt is supposed to be built next week (24th) and I understand it may take up to 3 weeks to get through all the quality test and be delivered to the NY dealer.

I paid $0.12 kWh for the past 18 months. My first bill (4/16/2011) on the hourly plan below was $0.09 kWh (ie. total bill / total kW used ... so it included fees, taxes, etc).

How I have my Volt schedule set up for the above rate plan (ComEd aka. thewattspot).

When setting up your charging schedule in the Volt it has a nice display that I over looked in the past. It is a colored Graph of the weekday and weekend schdule showing what you designated as Peek, Mid-Peek, Off-Peek time slots.

I picked up my Volt at the end of September, but have been on the ComEd RRTP program since early 2009. Taking into account all per-kWh charges (tax, transmission, etc) I've found that the baseline rate is 3.4 cents. Add to that the real-time (hourly) energy charge to get the actual marginal cost for Volt charging. The lowest predicted energy charge is usually between the hours of 1:00 am and 5:00 am, so I have the Volt configured to charge 240V during that period. I've followed the energy rates for quite a while and without calculating they seem to average between 2.2 to 2.5 cents. Add that to the baseline rate to get about 5.9 cents total per kWh. That's a conservative average of about $0.75 per charge. Note that sometimes the demand-based energy charges will even go negative! I've seen it less than -3.4 on a few occasions which means they are actually paying me to charge the car. Can't beat that.

The ComEd website allows you to download detailed hourly rate and usage data into Excel. When I get my first post-Volt bill I will be able to get a better idea of exactly how much the charging costs.

There is one detail of the RRTP plan that is not spelled out very clearly on their website. That is the "Capacity Charge". This is a fixed monthly charge that is determined by your peak usage in the previous year. It is computed with a magic formula that takes the "Capacity Obligation" as input. The Capacity Obligation as I understand it is based on your average usage during the four highest demand hours of the previous year. The Capacity Charge can vary widely based on whether you were running your air conditioner at the wrong time last summer. For example, mine went from almost $25 last year to under $10 this year. I was actually paying attention to it this year so I expect it to go down significantly again next year. Since this is charged every month you can see that it is a significant part of the total electric bill. But since it is not a per-kWh fee, and I charge the Volt off-peak, there should be no impacts to Volt ownership. And even with the high capacity charge last year I was still paying less overall than I would have with the fixed rate plan.

I've created a group for us: Chicago-area Volt Owners. I've dropped one post there now, with information about the IEPA rebate available for Volt purchasers.
