Somewhere in the forums there's a great detailed description of what each of the letters and numbers in the Volt VIN mean. I've done some searches but I can't find it. Could the author please re-post it, and maybe it can be made a sticky for future reference, and/or added to the FAQs.

honoreitiscom, it is in the "tracking your order thread", page 29 (link http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread.php?5110-Tracking-Your-Volt-Order/page29 ), but with a little luck I might be able to get the document to appear here. It is a PDF that was attached to a posting. http://gm-volt.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=526&d=1290115264 OK, the second link should take you directly to the document.

Because I have the document up on my screen, I fished out my camera and pulled up some Volt pictures from the RenCen a few days ago. The Volt on display does not show the VIN well at all, but I could tell that it was a low number (like 79). But outside at a charging station there was a Volt (not with manufacturer plates on it) and the serial number on it is 113916. How the heck can that be?

FYI, that VIN reference is linked in my order tracking post (link below). It's down in the 3800 section.
