I am not a Volt buyer yet (I have to wait until the Volt is available in my market area - Puerto Rico) but I found a site that sells a power monitoring device for the main distribution panels in homes and that could be use on the local 240 VAC charging circuit, too. It is call TED (The Energy Detective) and it uses a remote current monitor with two clamp-on current transformers (attached to both voltage lines without interrupting the wiring) placed inside the panel or outlet box, and a display base that can be plug into any home outlet (read the manual or watch the video for more information). The base has an USB connector for computer usage:

I found this while doing a search for the Kill-A-Watt device, which I use at my home. The site has other monitoring devices:http://www.killawattplus.com/?gclid=CP6_jeOj0aUCFVVi2godq3I-lw

I hope this is the device that many Volt owners are searching to read EXACTLY what power is going into the Volt charge and its true cost. The TED has internal programming for setting different KWH rates and for billing period summary.

I will buy a TED for my whole home monitoring but I can easily move the current transformers clamps to the 240 VAC circuits for the Volt charger when I install it (BTW, I am an EE).

We had a recent thread here where the TED device was discussed briefly. A couple guys have it and seem to be happy with it.
