Hey I have a question for those out there that have actually SEEN the Volt ....
This thread..
http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread.php?5283-Volt-UNPLUGGED-Test-Drive-Tour/page12
shows some close up shots of the center console. The console looks WAY more 'plasticy' / glossy than in other shots I have seen. Does it really look like this or is it only a aspect of this photo???

I drove the volt...and I have sat in a few others with both white and black center consoles. It's only my opinion, but they really look good. I think you will agree when you get to see them for yourself.

It is shiny (not matte like many cars) and is also plastic though I have been in cars with both color consoles and agree with mybatcar that, when you see it in person, you will be pleased. It works and looks very good.

Agreed. I was really concerned with that first picture, the gray looked like something out of a 70's science fiction movie. But in person, it looks orders of magnitude better, and I liked it a lot.

I saw the gray center console under full sunlight during a GM event in San Jose, and I have to say that it's the one part of the car that I just don't like. To my eye, it looked exactly the same in person as it does in the thread mentioned above. It is NOT black and is noticably lighter than various interior panels that surround it. It is glossy and plastic-looking and I don't care for the gray color at all (it reminds me of cheap trim used in GM cars during the late 70s). I'm concerned that after a bit of use the gloss will scratch and it will end up looking even worse.

I disliked the gray so much that I ordered my Volt with the white accents even though I haven't seen them in person. I expect the same glossy/plastic appearance, but at least it won't look like they did a bad job matching interior panel colors...

Ordered the dark console. Before demo driving the Volt I thought the white console would be cheap looking. Was surprised that the white looks sharp and fits in with the flow of the interior. The center console is a bit smaller than it appears in photos. My wife had the deciding vote for the darker console.

When I drove the Volt about a month ago, I found the white center console to look quite a bit like a white iPhone. I very much preferred the dark grey console in another Volt at the site and changed my order accordingly - just in time to beat the change to 2500/3000 in the production process. To each his own, but I found the white a bit too shiny for my taste.

I'll bet that if there do end up being a lot of negative about the current consoles that GM could offer different replacement choices; but we'll need to ask for them if we really don't like what's currently available.

I agree about the similarity of the white console to a white iPhone.......I was thinking it reminds me of a white apple laptop computer, and like the iPhone it is simple and elegant.....user friendly and intuitive.
I havent seen the grey color console so I cant comment on that, but from photos I did have reservations about the black and white consoles until I got to see them in person.
I like the front center consoles better than I like the door inserts.........
