Hi, from some of the recent video, it looks like the Volt is a "hatchback"? Do the rear seats fold down? And... if so, can you fit a bicycle in (with the front tire removed)? Or another question... assuming the rear seats do fold down, I'd love to know the length of the area behind the front seats to the rear of the cargo area? Thanks! -Leon

Yes the back seats do fold down.
Maybe you can tell if there's enough room for a bike from this picture of someone at the recent west coast Volt meetup. He decided there is enough room to sleep in back.

Can one of the CAB members take a tape measure to the back, with the seats down? I'd rather put my bike *in* the car than put a rack on the rear. Racking and un-racking is a pain, so I'd likely just eat the drag if the bike doesn't fit.

There is no doubt at all that a bike will fit in the Volt. In fact even the front passenger seat is supposed to be able to fold down for additional capacity. My wife and I recently went on a mini-vacation in her Saturn Vue and I put two bikes ( a road bike and a mountain bike) into the Vue with our luggage and the back seats folded down. It is not easy with two bikes, but not too bad. And I did not remove the wheels either, at least on one bike as I recall. The interference between the two bikes was the main difficulty.
The Volt has at least as much space as the Vue.

Can you put a rack on a hatchback?
I have a trailer-hitch mounted rack on my Civic right now, so with a strong advisory against a hitch, I've pondered the bike fit question for my Volt too. I'd love to just put the bike in, but if it's too tight or too muddy (I do a lot of mountain biking), then I might opt for some hatchback mounted rack if such a thing exists.

Can you put a rack on a hatchback?
I *think* so (depending on the rack). The straps to attach to the top of the trunk/hatch on my current rack are fairly long (aka "curious, I just went and measured them and they're 4'6"). And I have pretty good range on the angle for the trunk support arm/pads.
But I'd really rather not...
