: Preparing for my Volt

So I hope to get my Volt next month and I my goal is to use as little gas as possible. I've already been doing some mild hypermiling, such as mild acceleration and deceleration, timing lights and traffic, higher inflated tires, trip planning.

But now I try to see if I can do my trips between charging on 40 miles. I know many reviewers seem to get mid to high 40s with little practice but I'm assuming 40 miles regardless. I became upset with myself because I went 57 miles today. I could have planned the trip better and could have been under 40 miles.

Anybody else preparing for their Volt in their own way?

Most navigation units have "Fastest" and "Shortest" with some avoid options. What we need now is "Best EV Route".

I have 3 routes from my home to the nearest town with good shopping. Two are nearly the same mileage. One route has mostly steady grade for the 2500 foot change in elevation. The other has 3 significant uphill and downhill grades. I will try each in several combinations of which I take down the hill and which I take up the hill. It will be a good test of what percent of the downhill energy is captured by regen to be used in the uphill portions. My goal will be to use EV for the 45 mile round trip.
