This got mentioned briefly in the comments on Friday's article, but it didn't get discussed much and didn't get posted here. So here I go. A WEALTH of information.

Volt training videos (for new owners) have been posted to Youtube. Go to:

http://www.youtube.com/chevrolet#g/u

... and click on Date Added to see the most recent videos, and you should see all of the Volt videos added in the last few days.

Each is 2-3 minutes long. I've itemized them below, and added a few comments about notable content.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiBDQeX0RxA
Getting Started Basics -- remote start, car starting, fueling, some charging info (more in another video below), charging cord unplug/theft alarm!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQeVVqP8nGY
How to Charge -- includes mention of a charge status LED on dash (visible from outside as you plug in) and a reduced current draw option (critical for me for first few months until I get my charger installed); both well explained in video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvIvLZQwdzU
Dashboard / Driver Information Center (DIC) -- mentions individual tire pressure monitors, tutorial mode

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtMACEqCgDg
Dashboard -- more on DIC, including driving modes (electric vs gas), optional efficiency gauge

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWMBOQrXLNk
Heating and Air Conditioning -- starts with general introduction to center stack; mentions that ICE contributes to cabin heating; note correction at beginning of video about icon label change

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8HjBFidLqo
Leaf Button / Efficiency -- includes power flow animations

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4mA0A2OHNU
Stereo System -- includes mention of radio "time shift" feature, 30 GB "hard drive" (a misnomer, it's likely flash), copying of music from your portable USB drive to car's hard drive, and playback from USB device directly; possible CD ripping too, not sure

Nothing seen yet on the drive mode button, which my lead foot will be very interested in.

Thanks for the links. Interesting to note that the ICE can be used to supplement the heating of the cabin in very cold weather conditions.

Interesting to note that the ICE can be used to supplement the heating of the cabin in very cold weather conditions.

Indeed, that's new information I think, thanks for pointing it out. It does make sense since there's so much waste heat. You just won't get the instant-on feature of the electric heating :)

Really? At http://gm-volt.com/chevy-volt-faqs/ ? All I see there is a single short overview video, not these seven detailed training videos.

These same 7 videos have now been posted to the Videos section of ChevroletVoltage.com :

The touchscreen software and engineering shown in the Volt video tutorials is brilliant. But I can imagine less technically savvy customers being overwhelmed by the Volt's many layered digital controls and features. What happens if somehow the touch screen display fails while driving? How much does the advanced digital dashboard user interface add to the $41,000. cost of the Volt? Could GM consider designing, perhaps as an option for the next generation Volt, a "less is more" simplified dashboard, perhaps using retro traditional analogue gauges, without the touch screens, making the interior more familiar to more customers while retaining the benefits of the Voltec platform?

Sigh...... Look at the ChrisC FAQ. It is linked from the signature of several regulars. See below.
