Joined this forum to see what everyone is saying about the Volt, pros and cons. Can't wait until they are released so I can read what real owners think of the vehicle.

Welcome to the forum. I am from the DFW area and have a Launch Volt coming out of Austin. Tell us something about yourself. You will find lots of friendly back and forth here as well as Lyle (forum moderator) keeping us up to date on the latest Volt News on the Front Page so do not miss checking the Front Page at least once a day.

I am a Service Director at a Chevrolet dealership in the DFW area. I don't anticipate buying a Volt, but I do anticipate assisting in the purchase and service experience with potential customers and buyers next year when they are released in this area. Hope to learn a lot more about the Volt and help others with their questions.

As someone that may have the only Volt in DFW area until later in 2011, am I going to have a problem finding a dealership to service my Volt if it is required. We have been told by Chevy that all major cities will have support for the Volt even before Volts are available in in that city.

As you know, while only 600 dealers around the country are getting Volts during this launch phase, a lot more than that are going to be able to service Volts, thus providing the national coverage that one needs for a new car, right out of the gate in December.

Have your technicians been through the Volt training yet? Have you had to buy any special equipment to be able to provide support? It would be interesting to hear your perspective on that process.

Special tools have been arriving for the last 2 weeks. GM will ship everything we will need.

I have completed the Service Consultant training and my Shop Foreman will have the available technical training completed by next week. There are still unreleased courses for him to take. After he takes the courses I will use his training ID to get the training since I am not allowed by GM to take the technical course under my ID, due to my lack of ASE certifications. I won't get any training credit but I will gain the knowledge.

I will only be allowing 3 of my 7 Service Consultants to be Volt trained. They will be the only Consultants allowed to assist Volt owners.

We will be installing two 240 (40 amp) charging stations next month.

Hi there its nice to meet you. Great having you on the forum to provide us with real-world front line dealership info!

As you can see, my user name isn't particularly colorful, but more of a practical term.

:)

Hello from San Antonio

#1 on the waiting list in San Antonio. Expecting delivery March-June 2011. I am looking forward to taking delivery of my Volt. However, I am a little apprehensive about purchasing first generation vehicle. I have kept up with all the reports for the past 2 years, but still a little apprehensive about buying "a pig in a polk". The driving experience is going to be quite different since for the past 30 years I have been driving a F-150 4x4 pickup truck (not the same truck). (May have to keep a truck available but still like the idea of the Volt.)

Hi Jim,

I'm also here in San Antonio. I saw your other message about getting your Volt from Tom Benson. I thought they weren't going to have the cars for another year so I ended up going with a dealership in Austin since they are just up the street and will be getting things first.

I'm excited that the Volt Tour is suppose to be here on the 23rd with any luck I'll get to take a look at the car I've preordered ;)

Randy:

Benson is not suppose to get the Volt until next year. They told me sometime between March 2011 and June 2011.
I guess I was just lazy and didn't want to go to Austin for the car. As you, I understand that Austin will get the first Volts in the next couple of months. I just figured I would do business with the local boys.
