OK, since GM won't release the pricing on the Volt until early this fall, let's take a look around their other products for what they charge for various plausible options. Then let's imagine that the predicted $40K Volt will be a bottom-feeder like the Malibu LS -- but price it a little under $40K ($xx,825 comes right off the Malibu LS MSRP). Next, imagine that all the goodies showing up on the fully-finished prototypes (like the LED lighting, the ultrasonic parking assist and leather/heated seating) only come with an equivalent to the full-content Malibu LTZ -- and use the same LS-to-LTZ base price differential. I'm cynically assuming that the nasty black front and rear lighting enclosures on the 80 verification-build Volts is really the base lighting package.
So, you can have a Volt, before tax credit, for anywhere between $40,545 and $53,540, including destination charge. I hate to say it, but that sounds about right for a typical price range from stripper to loaded. Dang, equipped the way I probably would, this little fantasy exercise comes to $47,950. With tax credit, $40,450. With sales tax (but not registration) that's $43,327.
Gotta save a little more than I thought.
See the attached PDF for the price list.
