Just scanned through the Q&A article with Volt Global Marketing Director Maria Rohrer. It seems like GM is going to focus on Cali at first due to the environmentalist bent in the culture there. I understand the benefits to this. California is a tend-setting market as well. There would be the free publicity from the entertainment media in So-Cal that will get sent all over the US and the world. Heck, if it were my call I'd do 66% Los Angeles and divvy up the rest between the of California and Washington DC for the first year's models. But suppose I'm a selfish. :) Would you be willing to travel to California just to buy a a first roll out Volt?

Dont forget the temperate climate and GMs ability to concentrate their dealer training there.. warranty issues could be huge with this new mass produced stuff.

Its a temptation but I'd rather see every single unit maximize global marketing exposure than to selfishly manipulate the effort to get one. If I lived in Nevada or someplace close by, maybe but I I'm on the East Coast (Florida) so its too big of a challenge to travel all the way to the West Coast anyway. I can wait a year of 2. By then my Pontiac Vibe or Love will be paid off anyway.

You got my vote - I'm ready to make room in my garage to park the first DC-area VOLT right next to the first Northern VA/DC Tesla Roadster.

It will be important for government officials to see these on the roads so DC will be huge. (Freeby consult for Ms. Rohrer)

I think for 2010 I recommend blowing some feel good money on national advertisement but priority sell the Volt in selected markets. Let people know its here without frustrating people into thinking everyone can go buy one today. We're making them them as fast as we can, coming soon to a showroom near you soon. Sell the first roll outs in:

- DC for the government officials to see it in action.
- Long Island for Wall Street capitalists to see it on the roads.
- Southern California for the free global PR Hollywood will give the Volt on TV and the Movies and the fact the West Coast is begging the loudest for green technology.

If they had to pick one market, California was the obvious one. It's the biggest state, in population, auto market, economy, you name it. It's screaming the loudest for green vehicles as was mentioned, it's suffering the worst with air pollution, they've got the ZEV mandates, they've got one of the best climates for battery performance, the list goes on.

I'm just wondering what their time line is like for rolling out to the rest of the country. Are we talking 6 months or 6 years before it gets to place like Shboygen Wisconsin?

I would hope by year three anybody anywhere can get one and with the same technology in various models.

You mention climate. Never thought about that until now. What would be the hazards? Heat, cold, humidity, all of the above?
