View Full Version : Volt sightings?

Not sure if this is a good idea or just unbridled enthusiasm, but I think I saw a Volt today. I know that some folks, esp. in the Milford, MI area see them frequently, but is this a topic of interest? In my case it was over before I thought to give it good attention. The "gas door" was open. Oh, wait that's where the Volt charging chord plugs in. Could it have been?
I think I will carry a camera with me more often, but will have to refrain from using it while I am driving.
Just thinking...

Coming home from work this evening (09/09/2010) a fairly good looking car pulled up in the lane next to me and we both came to a red light. I noticed the Volt logo on the trunk lid. So I gave it a good serious going over. It was beautiful. I had time to fish for my camera, but alas, it was not in my bag. The paint color was confusing on close observation. It was a light tan, but I did not recognize it as one of the six offered colors. The driver seemed to have a "Volt attitude", moving in traffic with quick, assertive moves. BTW, the color was good, but not attention grabbing.

Just a... reminder maybe? Your phone likely has a camera... no?

Further recollection: it was at dusk, light slightly waning, but the color was what I would call a light tan, not white. Also, I distinctly remembered a large expanse of rear deck lid - not at all characteristic of the Volt with a section of translucent material, plus some more of that above/around the license plate (where the rear camera hides?). So a "normal" Volt has very little uninterrupted sheet metal on the rear deck. But when I looked closer it WAS recognizable as a Volt. But as I think about it I'm more and more sure that it is some variation. I could kick myself for not thinking of the phone, sorry.

Please clarify.

Driving like a sports car, but not quite that aggressive. It came from behind me going faster than others around me. This was on an exit from I-75 to Rochester Rd. in Troy, MI - the exit widens out to 4 lanes as it nears a traffic light. As I recall it was in the lane to the left of me and after the light changed it crossed two lanes to the right and we shortly got to another red traffic light. I expected to get a good look at it on my right, but it wound up being 2 cars behind. I did delay when the light changed and the Volt pulled beside me and then did a right turn.
The "Volt attitude" - exercising sport mode, but within limits. Assertive but not agressive. "Going for" the Volt Smile.

As I have replayed the images in my memory two things seemed to come somewhat clear to me:
- the color of the car was definitely a light tan. It sure was very similar to the color of the Volt in the article about the first two Volts taken to China.
- the back of the car was not the "standard" hatchback. The standard hatch has very little sheet metal - not enough to put the Volt logo/emblem on and I CLEARLY remember the Volt name (with the lightning bolt) and the Chevy bowtie in the middle of sheetmetal with that tan color. Only after recognizing the Volt emblem did I look critically and recognize it as a Volt. Don't remember if the rear spoiler was there.

Yesterday I spotted a truck load of Volts (9 of them) going south on I-75 (approximately at 7 Mile Rd.). Today spotted another at nearly the same spot. Both truckloads had the large Volt decals on each car. Today another red Volt had my favorite parking spot (quite alright) on the ninth floor of the parking structure. I continued up one floor (the top floor) where there is almost always an open spot near an outlet. Plugged in after reducing the charge rate (in case both outlets are on the same circuit).

most likely an Ampera. Last fall there was one, clearly a manufacturers test car, that kept appearing at the soccer field where my daughter was playing. Initially I thought it was going to be a 2012 volt, then a few weeks later images of the ampera appeared on the web.

Sorry I took your spot, mine was taken. The 240v chargers are being installed (at work), they started last friday! I can't wait!!!

Plugged in after reducing the charge rate (in case both outlets are on the same circuit).

Even if the shared circuit is wired for 20 amps, plugging two Volts into the same circuit with one at 12 amps is going to blow the breaker. Likewise plugging two Volts into the same circuit even at 8 amps each is going to blow a 15 amp breaker.

What I think I'm saying is, if the breaker didn't blow you're either on different circuits, or there's a strange red glow in the breaker panel...

JohnK...sometimes the White Diamond tri-coat takes on a much lighter beige color... and you do not even notice the white...maybe it was that color????

John...Could the car have had manufacturers plates; "M" plates as they are called. As you know we see lots of strange cars in this town, espeially this time of year. Last fall I saw many Volts. They were all the pre-production cars. I don't see any Volts now. I just had the software update done at Mike Savoie. It seems OK. The miles displayed after a full charge are a bit less, but ours used to eat up the first 3 miles in less than the first mile. It no longer does that but a full charge shows between 39 and 42 miles now.

I have only seen one other Volt "in the wild": a white one on my way to JFK airport a few weeks ago. I wonder if it was Lyle?

I thought Lyle's Volt was Cyber Gray.
