Here is a great article about batteries and the challenges ahead. The Volt is featured prominently.

My buddy walks in and says to forget the Volt, it will never work. My response, "okay so it's like it has a one gallon gas tank, but I can refill that tank by plugging it in."

I still believe the Volt is a game changer. But the article does highlight the difficult engineering challenge to storing electricity compared to chemical energy in gasoline.

We still have some education to do to the writers of these articles. At least if GM intends to differentiate the Volt from other "hybrid" vehicles. Never once did the writer mention the Volt was an electric car with a gas range extender.

In the future, there will be many cars that fit that description. But the article didn't really do GM any favors by lumping it into the descriptor "plug in hybrid". :(
