I traded in my 05 extended cab chevy pickup with 70k miles for a new scion Xb.
I owed 7k on it and got 8.8k as a trade in. I wanted to wait 2 more years for the Volt or some BEV pickup in meybe 4 or 5 years but I just couldn't afford the 500 a month note and 500 a month gas expenditures to go to work. Hopefully the little scion Xb will have a trade in value in two years, but who knows, it may not if gas is 6 bucks or better a gallon. The scion seems way faster than my pickup was, which I found hard to believe and 28 mpg is great compared to 12 that my pickup got. Even toyota cant sell their new tundra's. Maybe its a wake up call to the industry.

I imagine Honda can't keep any Civics on the lot as well. I've read newspaper articles that all of GM's hybrids are selling well, and they can't keep them on the lot more than a couple days.

I had to park my Yukon xl. Great vehicle, but the oil stranglehold is too much to take. I bought a new car 37% american made 2008 Hyundai Sonata. 4 cyl. 5 speed man. 33 mpg, seats 5 and paid $13,766 + tax for it. So far it is fitting the bill. I will have a "Volt" as soon as possible.

Hey Jeremy. If your still want to drive a pickup, you can. Pheonix Motors will be selling in 2009 an all Electric pick up ( they also make a SUV ) and gets over 120 mile a charge. Right now they building thousands of them as fleet vehicles this year. I am on the list for the SUV for next year. I understand that ZENN is coming out with a small sedan that goes up to 80 mph and 250 miles on a single charge. GM should do a better job at giving the public more than 40 miles on a charge. Way to little. Oh, also Telsa motors is coming out with a nice looking 4 door sedan at around 200 miles a charge. But it's a little pricey though. There are options out there.

I really don't think you should group the Tesla and other all electric vehicles with the Volt. They serve different purposes. The volt is designed to be driven to work and back <40 miles, and also to be used as a high efficiency cross country driver. You can't really jump in a 200 mile range Tesla and go for a cross-country trek. Unless you only plan to drive 200 miles a day. The 40 miles all electric is perfect for the majority of your average commuters.
