View Full Version : I'll take one of these instead of a volt! BDP 04-21-2009, 06:21 PM I wish I knew! Texas 04-21-2009, 08:21 PM I have mixed feelings about this vehicle. On one hand it's damn cool that we can have a huge 4WD vehicle that gets such great fuel economy. On the other hand, it works against what we need to accomplish in the short to mid-term. For one thing this vehicle is massive. It just makes it more difficult to have small EVs on the road with these beasts. People talk about the safety of having micro cars but that's not a problem in Europe or Japan because most of the cars on the roads are already small. Two small cars in an accident is not as bad as a micro car and this massive beast Hummer in a crash. Thus, I'm leaning toward using this advanced technology to make smaller and lighter cars at first. Then when we have a completely electrified transportation fleet that is powered by renewable energy resources and finally have that petroleum monkey off our backs we can work our way back to bigger and more wasteful vehicles. We have such a long and difficult journey in front of us that we are all going to have to do our thing. While this technology is great, it would be even more helpful (not to mention affordable) in a more practically sized vehicle. Then again, it's very cool and you could give Prius owners a dirty look for being so inefficient and wasteful... Priceless. misslexi 04-21-2009, 08:38 PM Right on TX! Mike-o-Matic 04-21-2009, 09:24 PM When does it hit the showrooms and for how much?Just my humble opinion, but... (a) Not soon (if ever)... :( ... and ... (b) Don't ask!! DaV8or 04-21-2009, 10:23 PM First they have to get it off the lift and on the road. Then they might have a car and not just a shop project. nlh_90210 04-22-2009, 01:04 AM I would rather see this technology in firetrucks and ambulances. You even have portable power generation for the emergency scene. I will have to say that I feel like smoke is being blown up my rumpus. A 40 mile AER hummer has A LOT of battery. Maybe it's 40 miles at 35 mph with no stopping. Something doesn't smell right. BDP 04-22-2009, 09:21 AM All I know is that a vehicle like this fits my needs. I can't get the family into a sardine can! And yes, they are in it every day of the year. I showed the website and the videos to my wife & her first words were "cool, when and how much?" That sounds like a YES in my world! The technology is there, and I'd buy it. So what's the hold up? Politics & greed?:D LampCord 04-22-2009, 10:17 AM Then again, it's very cool and you could give Prius owners a dirty look for being so inefficient and wasteful... Priceless. LMAO. It would be kind of funny to pull up to a Prius in one of those, roll down you window and yell "Gas Hog!" at the driver. Well, being a Hummer, it has a lot of room for a big battery. But a Hummer already costs a fortune right off the lot. Add $20k for the PHEV drive system. I'd just assume get that $50k Tesla sedan at that point and go pure electric. Andy0x1 05-01-2009, 01:39 PM I wonder how many miles per "can of Coke the driver drinks" it gets? Possibly thousands? Really the 40MPG means nothing in terms of efficency. What they should be telling you is how many Miles per KW it gets! Otherwise its meaningless! My gasoline powered car can drive forever without a single drop of Diesel fuel, cool huh?! If I mix one drop in per tank, I can get 300 miles per drop! I hope you all feel like fools now. willdryden 05-05-2009, 05:50 PM I wonder how many miles per "can of Coke the driver drinks" it gets? Possibly thousands? Everytime I see a hummer all I can think of it "Hold my beer and watch this!" Andy0x1 05-06-2009, 04:15 PM Everytime I see a hummer all I can think of it "Hold my beer and watch this!"
