Honestly, I like it soooooo much more than any Taurus before. It seems they've lifted some of the European cues that the new Chevy Malibu did, and it works.

That's not saying much! hehe
Well, besides the fact that it is basically a copy of the Toyota Camry, which the Malibu copied from too, I'm impressed with Ford. It looks to be a decent car.
I like the idea that not all the engineers in the world are redundantly working on developing vehicles along side each other anymore.
calgaryvolt 01-15-2009, 05:57 PM I'm not a big fan of the new design. The interior looks pretty nice though.
I think Ford was hurt pretty bad by not really focusing on the Taurus after 2000. This left them without a vehicle that could really compete with the Impala and the Accord and the Camry. They abandoned the Taurus and their current revival attempt has failed. Maybe this will be a successful come back of the Taurus but they might have damaged the name too much.
Guy Incognito 01-15-2009, 06:32 PM Well, it sure looks nice.
Hopefully Ford will be around long enough to bring it to market.

ominoeish,
The previous Malibus were copies of the Camry, but not this latest design. Both the Malibu and the Taurus have Euro-styling that is very different than today's Camry.
pennor1 01-16-2009, 03:06 PM I'm not impressed. It's just another half-egg shapped car ala the Camery.
Darn it anyway, where did all the stylist go? Did they all retire and were replaced with clones from Tokyo?

Henrick Fisker launched Fisker Coachbuild, then Fisker Automotive, and produced the gorgeous Fisker Karma plug-in series sedan.
Tesla Motors picked up a good designer, so we will see what he produces.
omnimoeish 01-16-2009, 05:48 PM I agree with that.

Although, I have to say, of the three extremely coincidentally similar body styles, I'd say I like the Ford the best.
kubel 01-20-2009, 06:04 PM I really like the front end on the Taurus, but I think they could have done a lot better on the rear.

You go from well designed and exciting on the front to bland and boring on the back.
FrayAdjacent 01-20-2009, 09:25 PM Looks to me like the styling is taking cues from the Accord... but the tall doors and short windows are more Chrysler-ish.
Overall, a very nice looking car. The interior is pretty nice looking.
Now, make that in an EREV format, and I'd be on it in a few years!

I agree, I do think it does have an Accord aroma to it now that you point it out. Henry Ford must be rolling in his grave, or at least he probably would be if it wasn't such an improvement over the old body styles (especially the pinched cheek ones).
Here is a picture of the Taurus SHO (super high output for those of you who aren't familiar). It's basically the same as the regular Tauruses, but I don't know about you guys but I was curious if they would make another SHO model as they almost always have since they started Tauruses.

I bet if Ford does jump in the EREV market, the Taurus will be strongly considered as a candidate.
DaV8or 01-22-2009, 11:08 AM You guys are all wondering who copied who. Can't you see, they are all boring, forgettable, unassuming appliances, so who cares?! It's just the way most people seem to prefer their cars now. This new Ford is just another car to ignore on the road. Somewhere along the line it was decided that only rich people should get stylish, unique vehicles and the rest of us get boring shlock.
I'm sure they'll do OK with this new Taurus, just like they did OK with the new Fusion, but that's all they can expect from it is just OK. If you can't stretch beyond being just OK, you can never expect your company to be more than just OK. I can't entirely fault Ford. It is one strategy for survival out of several. Rather than innovate, just duplicate your competitors.
FrayAdjacent 01-23-2009, 12:27 AM Hey, when people are left to their own devices, they usually imitate eachother.
