I recently got the documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car?" and it got me thinking...

Since GM is building the Volt, set to be released in 2010 as a 2011 model year, it might look really good, on a PR stand point, if they offered the very first "for purchase" Volts to former drivers of the EV-1.
As in..they let the former EV-1 drivers outright purchase the very first Volts available. No "Lease only" requirements....outright purchase, and maybe toss in..say 2 to 5 years worth of 'routine maintenance' like checking oil, wheel rotating and balancing, etc, to rectify how they handled the EV-1 situation.

It would have been a lot more appropriate to say something along the lines of "The concept is good - letting former EV-1 drivers have the first crack at purchasing the Volt, but..." instead of an attack.

Perhaps it would have been better, but I have zero tolerance for "looters", those who demand that others spend their own money per someone else's agenda.

I'm not sure GM owes the EV-1 Lessees anything. Their lease was up and they took the cars back. End of story. Kind of basic leasing, when you lease something, you don't own it and don't get to say what happens to it after the lease is up. However, I really doubt that GM will be doing a lease only strategy on the car this time around. The battery is another story, they might lease that to us.
