My prediction of Boeing falling into the same rut as GM is sadly materializing. A lot of this problem is international competition from Air Bus being what it is. They will be flirting with bankruptcy soon themselves.

Certainly, the middle-eastern airlines won't be buying much from either Boeing or Airbus, as oil revenues are way down. Boeing needs to "right-size" itself for the upcoming hard times, which are currently expected to last 4 years.

If you the "rut" you refer to is a global recession then yes, you are correct. Air Bus was born bankrupt and their products are marginal. The only reason they are still around is because the various backing countries keep dumping money at them.

Boeing is in a tough position because they sell a lot of airplanes to foreign countries. For some of those countries the quid pro quo is a piece of the plane building action. Boeing drank heavily from the globalization cup, most of the delay in the 787 Dreamliner is the result.

I've got several good friends who work for Boeing, some for many, many years, not one of them feels immune from being let go, although none expect to be in this round.

Is there any way that we can blame the United Aerospace Workers Union for this?
