This only proves that the majority of the people in the US are impulsive, never learn from the past, don't have foresight, don't have long term memory, and their short term memories I doubt. they don't plan for the future, only living for the moment, deciding instantaneously moment by moment.

Americans do have a short memory, and many will think that since gas prices were like this a few years ago, and were like this for years before then... that they will not go back up again.

I think people just can't afford a hybrid right now, as they fear for the jobs and their homes.

I have seriously thought about the new Insight, myself. $19k is not too bad, and if it gets numbers like the Civic Hybrid (40mpg city 45 highway), it would work well for me. My commute is 50 miles round trip, about 40 of it being highway.
I still have a couple years of payments on the car I have now... but if something were to happen to it, I would look at replacing it with an Insight.
