But it is still a synergy parallel drive. And no one is saying how big or powerful the new improved electric motor is, and how fast it will go and maintain the speed in pure electric mode. Could still be revised golf cart that can't go pure electric in normal freeway speed of 80 mph along I-5.

I think the progress with parallel hybrids will be incremental.

Here's a simple example:

My (former) 2004 Civic hybrid would turn off the ICE at a traffic light, stop sign etc. The instant my foot came of the brake the ICE started. Then lets say I move 10 feet, return to a complete stop, the ICE would not turn off. In other words, the ICE would turn off on the first stop only. Crude.

My 2006 Prius will, assuming the ICE is at operating temperature and the battery has some reasonable SOC, will keep the ICE off up to about 15 mph which means it's good for many more stop/start cycles before the ICE comes on. Better.

All that said, once on the freeway at 60 MPH they both achieved 45 mpg or so.

The Volt can still be a game changer.

My 2 cents.
