Don't expect it to be much cheaper though.

This was not done by Porsche, nor is it intended for production by Porsche.

Ruf did this. Ruf is a guy/company that tunes Porsches to get every last drop of performance out of them... and they do GOOD work.

This 911 was something Ruf had in mind for a while. I'd expect, if he produces a few for sale, they will cost SIGNIFICANTLY more than a Tesla Roadster, since you have to START with a 911, which start at about $75k for the very bottom end, then get the motor, batteries and controller hardware... then the labor of converting... I'd bet you wouldn't touch one for under $150k.

Don't get me wrong.. I have a Porsche in the garage (I had two until recently), and I'd LOVE it if Porsche built an EV, but they won't do it unless they can make it kick serious azz.

They are, however, most likely going to produce a hybrid version of the Cayenne.

Thanks Fray, I was under the impression Porsche was doing it themselves. That did seem a little unlikely.

Well, here's some more for you hydrogen lovers.

It's Kia's latest hydrogen fuel cell eye candy. It even has a 200L (53 US gallon tank). That sounds like a lot but that gives it over 400 mile range. It ends the same way all other hydrogen car articles end. They don't know when these will be in production, but the sooner the better kind of thing.

Who knows what Porsche will do in the future. They said they would never use a diesel, and now they're actually building Cayenne with a diesel (but we won't get it in the US). They are working on a hybrid version of the Cayenne. I wouldn't hold my breath, though, that there will be any hybrid 997s, 987s or 987-120s.

When energy storage units (battery, capacitive or otherwise) are compact, light and inexpensive enough, I'd love to pick up an old 911 roller and convert it to electric.
