Cool. The article is right. It's bad enough that Asians are out competing the American auto industry (I don't know what could make it any clearer than the fact that GM posted a $40 billion loss last year and this is year is even worse leading to bankruptcy), we can't compete in battery technology now either. We need a good American company with spare cash and their head screwed on straight to make sure we still have some kind of wealth building going on in our country and so that we can at least have some kind of option when oil prices go up.

I do not know about Intel making batteries. That would be a totally new direction for them. But having Intel work on the Battery Management Systems would make total sense. Every battery system needs one and the battery manufacturers seem to like to work with another company on BMSs. I could go for an EREV with Intel inside.

This seems to be a solid move by Intel. They certainly can manage the manufacturing part, I believe they have a solid background in the field. However, will they lease IP or something? Maybe work with A123 or some other US R&D team?

Maybe this could answer that question
