First and foremost, hello all! I've been a reader of gm-volt for some time, but this is my first post.

I came across an interesting news story today that says
Intel co-founder, former chairman and CEO Andy Grove, believes the company should take advantage of a major business opportunity and become a leading manufacturer of advanced batteries for plug-in electric vehicles.

In the same article it also says: "The 2010 Chevy Volt, for example, is rumored to only achieve one hour of battery time from its battery unit." - which needs explaining. I haven't heard this rumor, have you?

Well, the title is kind of misleading. Someone is advising them to make batteries. The guy is right though, 40 miles AER is approximately equal to an hour if you're lucky. I wonder if Intel could do better. Intel is a great American company and has experience in developing nano technology. This could be right up their alley if they put the right minds on the job. They might also get government funding if they play their cards right. They are one of the world's most reputable electronics manufacturers and would be trusted with the money if the public and congress (and the President-elect) have more foresight than the auto industry did with oil prices increasing by 50% a year for 3 or 4 years straight. It shouldn't take a crystal ball to figure out that there isn't a lot of money in gas guzzlers (or gas anything for that matter) much longer.
