What are the problems of having a 5 gallon removable tank or two such as an RV has? Using propane for the ICE. And what are the dangers? You can get propane just about everywhere, even at Wal Marts. maybe as an option?

Would be really nice. It shouldn't be that hard. I see propane gas powered forklifts in almost every warehouse that I've been to.

Only problem is that if propane powered vehicles gets too popular, the propane gas prices will rise.

Nothing wrong with propane but i cant see chevy taking this route any time soon. Since they are trying to sell an EV with a range extender they already have to deal with getting the public used to EV's. The standard gas range extender will help with the acceptance of the volt.

Personnally i think chevy is making the right approach to this vehicle. The serial hybrid platform is a big enough stretch for a mass produced car. no need to add another variable into the mix.

However. the best part about a serial hybrid is that the genset is modular by design. So if/when the volt concept takes off the engineering effort to change the genset will be much more managable.

unfortunately the EPA has rules ... something like you have to prove that it is cleaner and safer than the original OEM design you are modifying ... if you don't and the EPA finds out you can get fined a couple thousand dollars...

That having been said... many people have done it... and I expect many more will continue to do it... the police don't enforce EPA rules... and the EPA doesn't have the resources to try and check everyones cars.... so the old saying still goes , "your not in trouble until you get caught"
