I went into a chevy dealership today to get a cobalt XFE. The first dealership I called the salesperson told me the Malibu got the same EPA as the cobalt XFE and then told me the pricing was about the same and that he wouldn't be able to find me a 2009 cobalt XFE to test drive. So even before I got to the lot he was trying to change my mind from cobalt XFE to a malibu and he was either stupid or lying. So please tell your people to learn about their products and not to lie to people, Cobalt XFE 37 mpg highway and the best malibu (hybrid) is 34 mpg highway, not the same and certainly not similar in price. I bet he thinks the cobalt XFE gets 33mpg. Really stupid and lost his sale. GM is lucky he didn't lose the car sale for chevy but I was determined to find the cobalt XFE.
The second dealership I called the salesman didn't know anything about the cobalt XFE but he was new. They didn't try to sell me or change my mind on anything and in fact found the most stripped down car possible for me. 4 door XFE, no options or anything 15,100 msrp etc. If you asked about the vette the salesman knew a lot, but the cobalt XFE, nada, although he was very honest and didn't try to sell me anything more expensive. It's time for GM to require their dealerships to KNOW something about the fuel efficient options.
I've had bad experiences from toyota dealerships also but nothing of the level of ignorance from salesmen about a car that was on the lot. I told the salesman the XFE is rated at 37 mpg and he said no the cobalt ranged from 33-35. As we were walking by the cobalts I saw a sticker for 26/37 and sure enough it was a 2 door, XFE LS stick shift most basic model possible and I pointed it out to him and he seemed surprised.
