Was talking with my wife this evening about the Volt and I started thinking about last year's announcement of the Automotive X-Prize (requriements here http://www.progressiveautoxprize.org/files/downloads/auto/AXP_Draft_Competition_Guidelines_20070402.pdf). The X-Prize race/contest is to take place in 2009 and includes requirements that the vehicle be capable of being mass-produced in at least volumes of 10,000 vehicles per year, have a range of 200 miles and offer fuel efficiency of at least 100MPGe.
Just curous, based upon all that's been disclosed to date about the Volt [i.e. if it's only going to be $0.80 for the first 40 miles the car as designed at today's gas prices this would be price-equivalent to 175 mpg for those first 40 miles] if the Volt may be eligible for competing for the X-Prize or how far off everyone thinks the Volt is from the full standards.
