: Climate Control Question

Very simple. How do you turn it off? Do you have to reduce the fan speed to zero??

For some reason the climate system also confuses my wife. Yes, the fan at 0 is effectively shut off. Just press the "small fan" button a couple of times. You can also press the "climate" button to get a full screen of settings on the LCD display.

Here a related question:
Is the "Auto" fan speed that we configure/set, the "maximum" fan speed during AUTO operation ( & it will switch lower if nessessary, like other vehicle Auto climate controls), or is it a "fixed" fan speed that wont vary ...??

Not having an 'off' button for the climate control is one of the DUMBEST things GM has done with this car. I hope they make a software update that gives us a simple 'Off' button in the climate control page, since they werent nice enough to give us one with the lower panel.

Not entirely sure I understand your second question. If you select auto, it will adjust the speed from very low to very high depending on the cabin conditions continuously.

@ rlabrecq,

MTN Ranger is correct, you set the fan at 0. There is no actual 'off' button.

(BTW .. I didn't ask the 1st question .. :) )
In the "config" settings, it asks to select a specific fan speed for the "Auto" setting ....
What is the purpose of this Auto Fan Speed config setting, if the fan is simply going to cycle thru its speeds??

I actually have no clue :) The car is too complicated sometimes!

I think the lack of "off" for the audio (without turning off the whole display) would be a pretty strong candidate for the DUMBEST thing.

I have never messed with those settings. I almost always just use manual Fan speed 1 or 2 when driving. It's funny on all of my fancy Auto climate control cars, I stick to manual settings.

The software on the climate control system can be flakey. I've had that screen just lock up and refuse to respond a couple of times.
Rebooting the car has always fixed that so far.

Another gotcha I've seen. I was fan-only and off (fan at zero). Without going to the climate screen, I turned on the front defogger for a minute, then back off. Later I was wondering why my range was disappearing so much quicker than normal - the climate control had switched itself to eco from fan-only with no warning at all, and had been running that awful heater for half an hour before I noticed. I had to manually go back to fan-only and off.

Also pretty dumb, but I experience that less since I always am blasting my music :)

You guys are great! Thanks for all of the replies. Off button or no, I love the car.

I agree they should at least have a "soft" off button on the Climate screen, especially since the cost is just a little programming. They should also swap the temperature and fan speed buttons on the center stack. I hardly ever adjust the temp but adjust the fan often and it would be much nice to have those buttons closer. I do find myself using fan only a lot more in the Volt since the air stays at outdoor temps instead of pulling heat from the "engine" compartment as ICE vehicles do if not on recirculate nor do you have all of the heat conducting in from the front.

To many times now I've had the temperature demands at a reasonable eco setting yet initially have the heater and AC run at the same time sucking my battery, then in the same drive, the AC running like crazy just because the sun came out. All of which are robbing my EV range.
I owned other cars, including GM that have climate control, it's a simple button to turn off and keep the AC off, then it will use just outside and generally cool enogh air to keep the cabin temperature OK.
And yes, I am too confused about the "auto" setting for the fan speed in the vehicle set up. I'm a tech guy yet have not found what it actually does.
And one more thing. I don't like the idea of the car yet again is turning on the AC when it thinks it's humid. Too many times the AC runs to dehumidify and of course, the heater runs to compensate the temperature drop. hence I get 30 miles per charge winter and now getting close to 48 this warm spring. So, I can hear you say, "set up in the settings page to not use this feature". I have changed this setting, so why is the AC still running when it's quite cool? What's wrong with outside air without AC?
Nuts. So much tech in this vehicle and yet so many software glitches and what apears to me as miserable coding and software programming. Do I have to figure a way of fooling the sensors just to get better control and better milage? I shouldn't even be thinking these thoughts!
Do GM ever take note and address these kind of issues? My experience so far is the usual suited guy blowing "it's a new technoligy and we are working on it" type of force fed and brain washed rubbish.
I'm not anti volt. I love my car. But it could be so much better with more AC control, quicker GM response to problems, the Euro forth driver "hold" mode, and struts that don't clunk or "pop", but that's another story.

I can't believe there is no "Off" button soft or otherwise for the Climate Control system. Why in the heck would they omit such an obvious feature? Sitting there holding the fan down button just to get it to turn off makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
