Yesterday I received my letter from Chevy stating to contact my dealer for an appointment after March 19, 2012, to get the new battery housing upgrade done. The letter also stated that if I haven't had my software upgraded yet on my 2011 vehicle [I've not] that the software must be upgraded as part of housing upgrade.

Anyone else get the letter?

I got mine yesterday also, but no mention of the upgrade cause mine is a 2012. They did say the range estimate would be reset and adjust itself within a few days or a week.

I did not get a letter, but I set a preferred dealer with Onstar. A representative from the dealer called me last week to ask me about the battery fix. He has ordered the parts and will call me when they arrive.

You vehicle is in the lot to get the update, re-read the letter. Anything with a Vin South of ~15000 will be eligible for the structural enhancement. The reason the mileage will be reset as they pull the battery pack

I think update in this context refers to the software update, not the hardware enhancement. 2012 = no need.

Nope, any Volt made before Feb 15th 2012 is in the class to be updated. On Volts produced after this date ( Vins somewhere in the C15000 range ) are the ONLY ones that have the changes factory installed.

from the second paragraph, lines 1 and 2 of the letter:

We will be making enhancements to the battery coolant system and vehicle structure. Specifically your Chevrolet dealer will add a reinforcement bracket to further protect the battery pack in a severe side collision.

I got the letter last friday and dropped the car off at Irvine Chevy today; they seemed nice and the guy knew about the letter and said he'll order the parts and have it fixed this week;

@ Sam56n,

Great to hear! Should not be too long before you're back on the road with your Volt. Let us know how it all goes!

Just spoke to the local service department about both of our Volts, he is gathering the parts for all 3 items that need attention, the battery fix, the charger fix and the airbag inspection. Both cars are the same for status on these items. Looks like an effect service department.

I'll probably wait about a month until I need to have my tires rotated. Did anyone get a loaner Volt when the work was being done, or did you have to settle for an ICE powered car?

I have a 2012 Volt purchased in early Feb. I dropped mine off for the upgrade yesterday morning. I called in the afternoon and was told it was a two day job. This is the first one they have done.

I hope to pick it up late today.

@ dcsmith,

Great to hear you were able to get it in for the enhancement and even happier to hear you'll be getting it back today!

I contacted my Chevrolet dealer yesterday and they said that they were about to do the customer satisfaction body structure enhancement on their demo vehicle. They wanted to do their own vehicle first to get the experience before they do a customer vehicle. I told them that I appreciated their honesty and plan. They said they will call me in about a week to schedule mine. I think that it is great they (the dealers) want to make the VOLT experience so perfect.

Got my Volt back late this afternoon. A full two day job just for the battery "enhancement" as they call it! However, they did order me the new 110v charge cord. I haven't received the recall on that one yet - just read about it in the media.

All my settings "seemed" to be preserved. However, one setting that bothered me was not preserved. I have been getting used to the "auto locking" feature when you walk away from the Volt. Right after getting the Volt back from the dealer, I drove to a store for ... whatever. When I came back to the car it was still unlocked! Freaked me out a bit. I think I am going to set the option to toot the horn when the auto lock feature is executed. That feedback will be comforting,

One thing I don't understand is that the service dept deflated my tires to 31.9 lbs (per OnStar & voltstats.net) pressure? Where is that coming from? That's what the pressure was when I bought the Volt! The first time I thought it was an oversight, but two times? I try to keep my tires at 39 lbs cold.

@2BeLivingGreen,

Interesting!

I asked my dealer why they didn't upgrade their two models on the lot. I was told that GM had a limited number of upgrade kits and that they were to go to customer units first. I would have preferred my Volt NOT to be the guinea pig!

I wish the dealers would all sing the same song....

32 psi -That has to be a common old school pressure- someone just did not check the data sheets.

They do harder stuff all the time - The only new items seems to be the HV-gloves - and the yellow tape on the red cones !

Waiting for the kits to come in for my Volt and I many be the first or second.
