As a pilot, tired of my operational costs for my airplane now exceeding $100 per hour:eek: and the proverbial "$100 Hamburger" now costing more like a :($250 Hamburger:(... here is some exciting news...

A guy actually flew an LSA (Light Sport Aircraft) airplane at Oshkosh, having about a 2 hour range... That's about as far as any guy over 55 has in range on his bladder!

Here is the link to the company website... They haven't yet updated their info with the LSA airplane yet, but stay tuned.

Pretty neat. I'd love to see all the usual performance specs on it. It's not a plane I'm personally going to buy, but I love seeing new technologies evolve and an electric airplane would be the ultimate for me. Just like the car though, I want one that equals or surpasses the traditional ones I fly now. The one shown here is a little too basic and no doubt pretty darn slow. I couldn't even fly this plane out of my home field in Oakland because it doesn't have radios, transponder or any lighting, but for guys that just buzz around the patch out in the boondocks, this could be just the ticket.

No kidding about the need for transponder, radios and maybe a ZAON!

I flew into Burbank in a Cessna 421 years ago and geeze, everything to include the Goodyear Blimp was in the skies... Only in California can aviators read bumper stickers IN THE AIR, :eek:on the other guys airplane. Oakland must be WILD... Was just at SFO in June as a passenger. Looking down at Oakland, all the airplanes buzzing around and ALL THAT WATER made this Desert Texan kinda nervous.

For me, since I own my airport in central Texas "Knot-2-Shabby", flying around with no traffic out here , an electric -- two hour range one seater is OK for me. But that being said, I suspect someone will someday create a liquid fuel that will continue to run the good-old tried and true Lycomings and Continentals that have such a great track record.

NOTAMS, Land at your own risk, fresh/moist cowchips on runway. Check breaking action prior to landing on wet cow dung. Bring your own soap and water. Fast taxi and depart rapidly (as in Muy Pronto) if Texas Longhorns approach your aircraft after landing.

Yikes! No need to fertilize the field I suspect. I am assuming it's a grass strip/cattle range. I've told to increase speed on final, short approaches, taxi and depart with no delay, all to make room for jet traffic, but I've never been chased by a bull!
